Fredrik, David and James from Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles fought over a $15 million listing. For most of us, those numbers are absolutely astronomical, but for these real estate tycoons, it’s all in a day’s work. Still, it begs the question: Who came out on top?

It all went down on the August 11 episode when Fredrik Eklund, previously from Million Dollar Listing: New York tried to interlope his way onto a listing held by David Parnes and James Harris. Eklund, who made the move into the Los Angeles market in 2019, felt that because he has a working relationship with the home’s developer Zach Vella, he should have been listed as a co-agent on the property. This didn’t sit well with Parnes and Harris who know firsthand that having to split a commission three ways instead of their usual 50/50 take would be bad business. Adding to Eklund’s troubles are the other MDLLA agents and brokers who were quick to stick up for their own.

Tracy Tutor said, “We all know Zach Vella was Fred’s client in New York, but is very clearly James and David’s client in L.A. I don’t know in what universe Fred thinks he has rights to James and David’s client.” Added Flagg, “To say that that listing should be his when he’s never sold a house in Bel Air I think is absurd,” Even Altmann, who NEVER agrees with Flagg, thought the same thing: “Why would a New Yorker who’s buying in L.A. call a New Yorker? They would call an L.A. agent.”

Eklund is typically well-liked in the business world, although he is not without his controversies on MDL. Viewers may remember his acrimonious storyline with Ryan Serhant of MDLNY. Eklund had no problem expressing his disdain for his rival. On the show, he would attempt to undermine Serhant’s relationships with clients. Serhant would also take shots at the tall Swede. However, that drama was largely personal. The current falling out with Parnes and Harris doesn’t appear to have irreparable consequences, but it did sully perceptions of him locally. Not only that, but he also trash-talked the house and some of its less-appealing features, which is strange, considering it was Vella’s property.

Greed may be the name of the game when it comes to making money as a real estate agent, but Fredrik Eklund has finally overstepped his bounds. Everyone who owns a house, buys a house, and especially sells a house knows that jurisdiction is a huge part of the process. If the buyer in question has the kind of money it takes to be in league with this particular group of agents, then surely they would know who to call in Los Angeles to show them a house. As for Eklund, he’s been one of the top real estate tycoons in this country for years now, so undermining locals for a commission is completely bizarre, considering how snippy he’s gotten about it when it’s happened to him on Million Dollar Listing: New York. It remains unseen how this will affect Eklund’s future business in Los Angeles, but for now, he’s definitely on everyone’s radar.
