Michelangelo has been banned from one of the first official Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl tournaments to be held since the game’s release.

Super Smash. Con will be taking place this weekend and will have a dedicated event for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl with a $10,000 prize up for grabs, making it the biggest tournament held for the game so far. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’s Michelangelo won’t be joining the party, however, as announced by freelance tournament director Michael Brancato.

Michael Brancato announced the banning on Twitter, after asking participants to familiarise themselves with the rules of the upcoming contest. He said, “Really excited to be helping with the $10k Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl tournament at Super Smash Con this weekend. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the rules”. Within those rules is a line that says, “Michelangelo is banned. All other characters are permitted”.

For anyone following the competitive side of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, it’s probably no surprise that Mikey is being banned from tournament use. Players have discovered a chain grab using Mikey’s air neutral attack that essentially allows players to use the same move over and over again before throwing the opponent off the stage and guaranteeing a KO. This works on every character in the game.

It’s interesting to see such harsh punishment be put on Michelangelo, as players have also found an Infinite Jab exploit with Sandy, but she hasn’t been banned from the tournament. Instead, Super Smash. Con has banned the usage of Infinite Jabs outright. Even beyond the exploit, it looks like Mikey is just a bit too powerful overall, joining the likes of Bayonetta and Meta Knight in the banned platform fighters gang.

Michael Brancato has promised that “if there are any Switch patches prior to the event we’ll take a look and re-assess”, but it seems unlikely that Mikey will be fixed in time for the event. Ludosity has confirmed that it is already working on a fix for the exploit but hasn’t given any set time for the patch.
