During the last gameplay demo, Marvel’s Midnight Suns devs noted the game is a premium title with an enormous single-player campaign that is brimming with content. According to new data, it will take you about 40-60 hours to complete the tactical RPG depending on how you invest in side missions.

Firaxis Games creative director Jake Solomon revealed how long it’ll take to finish Midnight Suns in an interview with GamerBraves. Solomon, who is a huge Marvel fan, said Midnight Suns is like a dream come true for him and many other developers at the studio. Therefore, right from the start, the team decided the scope of the project should be impressive. “Depending on the player, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will take about 40 to 60 hours to play through,” the creative director said.

Following the beaten path of modern triple-A RPGs, there will be main and optional missions in Midnight Suns. While you’ll be obligated to play as the Hunter through the main story, you’ll be able to complete side missions without them. It’ll be possible to fully experiment with your three-person squad during such appointments. One way or another, you’ll have to use each hero at least once, because the quests always need one particular character, depending on the story context.

As was earlier revealed, Midnight Suns will play very differently from the XCOM series. The upcoming superhero tactical RPG was designed to play “faster than XCOM, both in the actions you take as well as the length of the missions.” For example, there will be no time limit here, as it made no sense and added nothing interesting to the gameplay mechanics. In addition, you can’t skip the animations for the attacks, but the team hopes it wouldn’t be annoying.

Another interesting detail is that you can’t permanently lose members of your squad on the battlefield but have to restart your mission if defeated. While some players might find the new game easier — you’re in control of the most powerful heroes after all — the team didn’t sacrifice the essential depth or complexity. Jake Solomon believes “cards offer […] a new and interesting way to present tactics to the player,” and the team is very excited for people to check it out.

Midnight Suns is launching in March 2022.
