If absence makes the heart grow fonder, what does a tease of epic proportions do?

With Netherrealm Studio set to release its massive DLC update next week in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, fans have been given a look at the various Friendship endings that will be making their way back to the longstanding franchise. One such ending even features a fan-favorite character who many players have been clamoring about since even before Mortal Kombat 11’s release: Mileena.

That’s right. Shao Kahn’s sharp-toothed daughter will officially be making her way to the Mortal Kombat 11 arenas, being featured in a lively game of patty-cake in her pseudo-sister Kitana’s Friendship ending.

The catch? She won’t actually be a playable character. In fact, Netherrealm blatantly stated that fact on Twitter with a clip of the Friendship:

Scrolling through the replies of the post, fans are clearly torn as to the manner in which Mileena will finally be added to the game. While some respond in anger or heartbreak, others admit that her being added to the game in this capacity is – for all intents and purposes – technically “adding Mileena to Mortal Kombat 11.”

Mileena’s inclusion in Kitana’s Friendship move is an interesting one, given the two’s tumultuous relationship, but that’s really the point of Friendships, isn’t it? Letting bygones be bygones and sparing your opponent are what Friendships are all about. Why wouldn’t the two laugh about and hug like loving sisters do?

At any rate, not all hope is lost for fans wanting to be able to play as Mileena. Although she was playable in Mortal Kombat X, it’s not that unusual for Netherrealm to shelve characters for years before bringing them back in a later release. With the studio still pumping out new content for the game which released just over a year ago, Mileena could still have a sliver of a chance to make a roster spot as a playable character.

Of course, it could just be Netherrealm trolling us all as well; dangling Mileena just out of reach from her fans’ loving embrace.
