In anticipation of the next big Minecraft update, players have taken to social media to share some ideas for cute critters that could be added to the game, including the odd choice of the capybara. Even though the content that will be added in the upcoming Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update has likely already been decided, it hasn’t stopped fans of the game from speculating and giving their own thoughts on what content they would like to see in the future.

Minecraft recently held a fan vote in order to help determine the next big update to the game. The end result was the addition of the Allay mob and other changes to the Swamp biome. Among those changes were new mobs like frogs, new vegetation like mangrove trees, and other long-awaited additions. It’s not yet clear when this new content will be coming to Minecraft, although Mojang has stated that the Swamp update would likely not be until 2022. But Minecraft players are hopeful that the update might bring some more unannounced creatures as well.

Redditor King_Tuc4n shared their pitch for a brand new mob that could be added to the game: the capybara. Their post includes an image of a small creature, about a block in size, which would make it among the smallest of the mobs in Minecraft. The model used appears to be similar to a cow, but with a texture that looks like fur, similar to a brown sheep or llama. Even so, the capybara that King_Tuc4n showed off looks like it would fit right in with the other Minecraft mobs.

Thematically, a capybara would be a fitting addition to the swamps once the update goes through. In real life, the capybara is a giant rodent like a guinea pig that lives in forests in South America near bodies of water. Capybaras also live in savannahs as well, so the creature could also be added to the corresponding biome in Minecraft as well.

The fact that even a decade after its initial release, Minecraft is still inspiring such creativity from its players shows the power the sandbox game still has. Fans are not only creating their own new mobs, but sharing incredible builds, finding new easter eggs, and creating new ways to enjoy the game. With updates keeping the players so engaged that they’re pitching additions for an update that doesn’t even have a release date yet, it’s unsurprising that Minecraft continues to be the cultural mainstay that it is.
