The title’s creative community is well-known for accomplishing feats of in-game construction, with builds ranging from simple and effective to endlessly complex. The in-game resource Redstone, gathered from special ores in Survival mode, allows knowledgeable gamers to program electronics within the game. This allowed one user to create a Minecraft escalator build which works realistically within the cubic game.

Standing out amongst the Minecraft community’s many breathtaking builds is Reddit user Celthyana’s recreation of the Cathedral of Orléans. The gorgeous gothic church, located in Orléans, France, was built between 1278 and 1329. While partially destroyed in 1568, the church has since been reconstructed to its original state. Celthyana’s skillful recreation of the church’s edifice is a nearly perfect match, which is demonstrated by the player’s side-by-side comparison photos below. The interior of the digital restoration also appears to be heavily decorated with stained glass windows and gothic designs. The massive and detailed build apparently took Celthyana a total of 46 hours to complete.

Minecraft’s sizable number of different tools and resources means that every build can be wholly original to fit each player’s unique tastes. The scale, style and method of constructing each creation is entirely up to the user. One particularly secretive Minecraft player recently revealed a build with a double secret entrance, ensuring that no enemies could steal any of their precious loot. Like the in-game escalator, this secret entrance within a secret entrance makes use of Redstone to operate. A Redstone-powered door leads to a hidden room, but the creator can also hitch a ride inside the moving wall which takes them to another secret area under the floor. Unfortunately, now that the build has been shared on Reddit, the double secret entrance is no longer a secret.

With more than a decade since the beloved game’s original release, Minecraft players have completed countless numbers of impressive architectural feats. While many choose to create new works, many players like Celthyana choose to painstakingly recreate real-life feats of construction. Orléans Cathedral is a breathtaking piece of gothic design, and Celthyana was able to capture the church’s scale and detail perfectly within Minecraft’s blocky world.
