According to the NPD’s report for the month of April 2019, NetherRealm fighter Mortal Kombat 11 and PlayStation exclusive Days Gone dominated sales in the U.S. over the aforementioned period (via Gamestop).

The former was the month’s top seller and, by extension, became 2019’s second-best seller, only behind Kingdom Hearts 3. MK 11 is also the first third-party game to lead Nintendo Switch sales for a month since Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle released in September of 2017.

Meanwhile, Days Gone came in at No.2 in U.S. sales. Its haul marked the seventh biggest sale for a game published by Sony during the month of its launch. Developers Bend Studio also saw the zombie shooter become its all-time best seller in the short space of time.

MLB The Show 19 finished at No.3 and remains the best-selling sports game this year. That should change by the time the likes of FIFA 20, Madden 20, and NBA 2K20 come around, however.

Below is a list of the 20 best sellers for the month. Digital sales for both console and PC are excluded, but Minecraft sales for PC and Xbox One are included.

The NPD’s report also reveals that total video game sales across consoles, PC, and portable devices grossed $427 million in April, a 15 percent rise year-over-year. Game sales are up 4 percent on a year-to-date basis, taking the total up to $1.9 billion.

As for hardware sales, the Switch continues to dominate and was April’s best-selling console. The 32GB neon red/blue system is also the best selling piece of hardware for all of 2019 so far.

Despite the Switch’s success in that department, total hardware sales suffered a 29 percent drop down to $160 million in April, with all other consoles experiencing a decline in sales. Hardware spending is also down 16 percent on a year-to-year basis at $918 million.

The sales of hardware, software, and accessories all put together went up 1 percent in April in the US, totaling $842 million. Totals are down 4 percent for the year, though, with $4 billion spent.
