Co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice Ed Boon has been making the rounds on social media once again, sharing some amusing fan works involving Spider-Man and Cuphead. The legendary programmer and game director has always kept in touch with fans, sharing their artwork and even dropping clues about upcoming guest fighters for Mortal Kombat 11.

Among the many fan pieces shared by Ed Boon over the last few months are a brief GIF of former Lin Kuei member Smoke shifting between his original and modern incarnations and a stunning cosplay of Skarlet. He has also given fans of Mortal Kombat several insights into the world he helped create back in the mid-90s, opening up about his favorite fatalities and fighters and even weighing in on who should play Johnny Cage in the planned sequel to this year’s Mortal Kombat movie.

Yesterday, Ed Boon shared a fan-produced screenshot of Cuphead battling Johnny Cage to his Twitter page, courtesy of YouTuber Bob Coria. A couple of days earlier, another fan by the handle of Junior Beasley commented on one of Boon’s non-MK related postings with an impressive fan video from little known animator Dazzling Divine, showing off the Spider-Man 3 version of Spidey facing off against the armored Batman from Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, complete with the infamous “Ride That Funky Soul” in the beginning and actual sound clips from both films.

While these postings are likely just Ed Boon and his fans having fun on the internet, there have been rumors of a NetherRealm-produced Marvel game in the style of the Injustice series, something that Boon himself has expressed interest in before. Meanwhile, he hasn’t teased anything about Cuphead at all, but the lovable platformer is getting his own animated series on Netflix, featuring the voices of Wayne Brady, Tru Valentino, Frank Todaro, and Luke Millington-Drake in addition to the classic vintage cartoon art style fans loved from the game.

In the meantime, it’s always fun to see what video game creators like NetherRealm’s Ed Boon are up to on social media, especially when it involves sharing great artwork from the talented and dedicated fans that helped make games like Mortal Kombat and Injustice such breakout successes. While the chances of Cuphead actually appearing in an ultra-violent series like Mortal Kombat are slim-to-none, fans could end up seeing Spider-Man and Batman face off in a NetherRealm game someday, especially if Ed Boon is indeed working on a title set in the House Of Ideas.
