Survival games have a lot of moving parts, from roaming rivals to nasty weather systems – it takes a well-prepared player to make it through alive. Myth of Empires is no exception to the rule, even with its MMO element combined. Planning for the not-so-rare instance when you’re under fire is what separates the good from the great.

The only thing that remains the same is your base, somewhere you can come back to and feel safe after a long day of combat. If only Myth Of Empires made it that easy, instead your base becomes a target for other players to steal your resource and wipe out your team. Placement is crucial to a reliable base, and there are only a few spots on the map that will do the job, making sure you and your valuables are secure for the long haul.

5 River Bandit Falls Cave – (2644,449)

A cave neatly tucked behind a narrow waterfall, blocking off any visuals from the outside world. When you first enter this hideout a group of level 12-19 enemies will attack, which can be overwhelming depending on what stage of the game you’re in. If things get a little too overwhelming the best thing to do is lure them out through the waterfall one by one, limiting how many bodies you have to keep an eye on at once. Occasionally you’ll see a gold level 20 enemy that ramps up the difficulty but will give you more coins at the end – make sure you check before engaging.

This cave is located beside a neutral city and resources like copper, iron, and salt, everything you need to build your character up from scratch. One of the biggest concerns in finding a great base is the defensive potential, reducing the risk of being raided for all your supplies or fighting through a dragged-out siege that ends in defeat. Luckily, the visual block you get from the falls lets you surprise your enemy with reinforced walls while the path below lets you drive up supplies through the rocks with your carriage.

4 Western Lake Cave – (-2961,2381)

One of the most popular places to build a base, and for good reason. Only a few people ever stumble across this cave because it’s underwater, giving you almost no reason to explore the area. The best defense is to not be noticed in the first place, only enemies specifically searching would come through the cave. You’ll be in a high-level area so entering and exiting the area can be a real challenge if you’re under level 40, fighting off rhinos and wolves to escape safely.

There’s only one path to leave and enter the base, preventing you from being snuck up on at any point. You’ll want to build up a high-level defense because the single entrance/exit also means you can’t leave, trapping you. If you’re strong enough to hunt the animals and build a great defense it’s one of the best in the game, providing a clear access route to the desert and other high-level areas. A large guild probably won’t be able to fit in this space, favoring small to medium sizes that can build crafting tables and keep all their valuables extremely well guarded.

3 Jungle Cave – (1252, 3293)

A little beauty to add to the list, this cave is easily one of the most scenic places to build a base on the entire map. A low-level area that has the biggest range of resources available, with Iron, Coal, Salt, Copper, and Jade. You’ll also find Notoginseng in the jungle, an orange flower that can be used for medicine later in the mid-game.

Plenty of hunting to do right outside the cave too, with Boar, Deer, and Wolves all a stone’s throw away. You won’t be searching for any resources for long (unless you want meteoric iron), freeing up time to sharpen your skills with a trainer at the neutral camp. Close to a mountain range, defending the area is as easy as covering all paths from below to make sure no vagrant or enemy players can make their way to the base without you noticing.

2 Desert Cliffs – (-352, -746)

Only advised for veterans, this area rides the edge of the desert, and dangerous situations surround low-level characters. Just outside the heat zone, so you won’t need to worry about cooling down in fear of death. Next to a farm, this cliffside base location only has one path leading up to it, severely limiting any threats once you’ve set up the proper precautions.

On top of a farm, you have iron deposits in combination with short travel to the meteoric iron section, giving you some of the strongest material in the game. Following the river will lead you to Rhino and Elephant spawns, valuable assets that can be tamed and taken into battle with you. The cliffside also gives you the opportunity to expand if you want, widening your base and giving you more angles to attack would-be enemies on the small path up.

1 Island – (2267, -878)

While it isn’t one of the most sheltered spots, the island has the most defense potential above ground. A thick ring of water prevents any heavy-duty attacks from sneaking up on you. The base has a generous amount of space for mid-large guilds, surrounded by a buffet of resources to choose from on either side of the lake. Deer, Rabbit, Fox, Boar, and Wolves all populate the area, along with Clay and Iron mines bordering the outer edges.

The unique thing about this location is that one side has low-level vagrants and animals for easy combat, while the other side moves into mid-level territory that you can mine and farm for most of the game. Complimented by a neutral camp directly to the north, you can level up skills before taking on harder challenges, making it a perfect transition into the tougher sections of the game.
