The fans of the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm games have been able to enjoy HD remasters of the original trilogy for a while now, as the games have been released on several different platforms over the years.
The Naruto fans in Australia will need to have a pretty good Internet connection if they want to play Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch, as there won’t be a cartridge in the physical version of the game.

EB Games in Australia has a listing on their page for Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (via. Vooks) that confirms that you will only be receiving three download codes and a box, rather than an actual physical cartridge.
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy is over seventeen gigabytes in size, due to how it supports multiple languages. It’s due to this increased file size that all three games wouldn’t fit on the 16GB Nintendo Switch cartridge and the next available size is the 32GB cartridges, which are more expensive to produce.
A similar occurrence has happened in Europe, with Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy available in a similar format in Spain, where you only receive a physical box with codes in it, while fans in other regions (such as Great Britain) can only purchase the game on the Nintendo eShop without having to resort to Japanese imports, as the game received a physical release there.
This isn’t the first time that a company has tried to pass off a digital version of a game on a physical medium, as the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was a disc with a Steam installer on it and had no files related to the game.
It’s not uncommon for companies to only sell games with a high file size in a digital format on the Nintendo Switch, as they don’t want to pay the extra cost for cartridges with more memory. It seems that Nintendo fans will be forced to shell out money for an SD card with a lot of money if they intend to keep buying digital games for the rest of the Switch’s lifespan.
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy will be released for the Nintendo Switch in Australia on March 15, 2019.
