What do Naruto’s famous Konoha 11 get up to after the main series ends? As the series progresses, Naruto’s classmates take a more prominent role, elevating from intriguing background characters to main players within the village of Konoha. As this storied generation of ninja gain power and renown, they collectively earn the nickname “the Konoha 11,” albeit perhaps more among fans than in the series itself where the term is only recognized in the anime.

The official members of the team comprise of: Naruto and Sakura (Team 7), Hinata, Kiba and Shino (Team 8), Shikamaru, Ino and Choji (Team 10) and Neji, Guy and Tenten (Guy’s team). When Naruto ends, only a brief flashforward montage hints at the Konoha 11’s adult lives. However, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations sequel explores the future in far more detail, and despite focusing largely on a younger cast, all of the veterans feature to some extent. In between the primary narrative, this provides a fascinating insight into the lives of Naruto’s generation.

As revealed largely in Boruto, here’s what happens to the Konoha 11 following the conclusion of Naruto:

  • Naruto Uzumaki: Predictably, the main character of the story attains his goal of becoming Hokage and initially reigns over a peaceful, prosperous village with only minor (mostly filler) disruptions. Alas, the Seventh Hokage’s tenure is far from smooth sailing. Boruto reveals that Naruto is defeated and possibly killed, while Konoha itself is reduced to rubble via methods currently unknown. To make matters worse, Naruto’s duties distract from his familial role.
  • Sakura Haruno: In another foreseeable turn of events, Sakura finally gets her man and marries Sasuke, with whom she has a child. Unfortunately Sasuke’s desire to protect Konoha takes him away for extended periods, meaning Sarada barely sees her father. Sakura continues in the medical profession, becoming one of Konoha’s foremost healers, and her raw physical strength proves useful during emergencies.
  • Hinata Hyuuga: After marrying Naruto and having two children in Boruto and Himawari, Hinata’s role as a ninja is seemingly reduced in favor of more domestic duties. As well as nobly keeping her family together, Hinata also maintains a strong bond with her Hyuuga roots, but her time in the field appears to be over. The only exception comes when Naruto is captured by Otsutsuki and Hinata gives chase.

  • Kiba Inuzuka: Unlike Naruto, Kiba’s dream of becoming Hokage never comes true, but (also unlike Naruto) he does at least become a hit with the ladies. More importantly, Kiba’s skill in training ninja dogs leads to a number of TV endorsements for pet products, and he ultimately goes on to join Konoha’s growing police force.
  • Shino Aburame: Infamously absent throughout most of Naruto, Shino has a far bigger role in Boruto, training at the ninja academy like Iruka did previously. Despite retaining his social strangeness, Shino earns the respect of his students and provides lessons of both the ninja and real-life variety.
  • Shikamaru Nara: As hinted towards the end of Naruto, the Seventh Hokage hires Shikamaru as his right-hand man, organizing the day-to-day of Konoha village and acting as leader in Naruto’s absence. Shikamaru marries childhood rival Temari and they have a single son together.
  • Ino Yamanaka: Running the family flower shop, Ino appears to have a less glamorous adult life than other Konoha 11 members, despite marrying Sasuke clone, Sai, and raising their son. However, Naruto secretly utilizes Ino’s communication and sensory abilities to monitor the perimeter of Konoha and detect unwanted intruders.

  • Choji Akimichi: Husband to the Hidden Cloud’s Karui and father to ChoCho, Choji’s role barely changes from Naruto to Boruto, as he remains an active ninja in the future timeline.
  • Neji Hyuuga: Dies towards the end of Naruto, fans still not quite over it.
  • Rock Lee: Still an enigma, Rock Lee has a son called Metal, but the boy’s mother remains unidentified. Rock is promoted to Jonin in Boruto‘s era and continues as one of the highest-ranking fighters in the village.
  • Tenten: The only member of the Konoha 11 not bestowed with a surname, weapons specialist Tenten is even less important to the plot than Shino. After Naruto, she opens up a struggling ninja tools business and, entrepreneurial endeavors aside, remains an active participant in missions and training genin.

While most of the Konoha 11 end up with somewhat predictable career paths or relationships, it’s interesting how they all make use of their unique abilities to some extent. Shino’s fate offers perhaps the biggest surprise package of Boruto, demonstrating a natural affinity for teaching.
