Although you could progress through MyCareer without ever playing an online game, there are quite a few quests that require you to match up with other people. If you want to get the full experience out of MyCareer, it’s highly recommended to participate in these online contests found scattered around.

The easiest way to find willing players is based on current City and Season Quests. These quests tend to reset every week, so they are time-sensitive if you’re hoping to complete them. Many quests task you with playing games throughout The City or on specific courts, like Zach LaVine wanting you to play games on the Mountain Dew Court.

Once you find a court or enter one of the designated playing areas, such as The Old Gym, The Factory, The Market, or The Warehouse, it should only take a few moments before your two other teammates fill in. The usual wait time for an online game in MyCareer is about five minutes, so if it’s taking longer than that, you might want to move on to another court.

Unlimited offers a more traditional five-on-five online contest, competing with your best players, while Limited has the same format but with unique lineup creation rules that change weekly.

If you’re not confident in the squad you have, then draft a better one. In Draft, you select a team of five players for a limited run for guaranteed prizes. You’ll receive a Draft Kit that contains a Featured Pack of three high-quality players, a Coach Pack for the system your team will run, and position packs to fill out the lineup. Each pack holds five cards, but you’re only allowed to flip over three of them and choose two. If you lose three games, your run ends.

For players turned off by the razzle-dazzle of MyTeam or who have a MyPlayer that isn’t quite up to snuff, there’s always Play Now Online. The more traditional and standard online mode in NBA 2K22, Play Now Online uses current teams to battle online just like the offline Play Now mode. The goal in Play Now Online is to rise through the ten leagues. Within each league, there are three tiers. You’ll need to win a certain number of games in each to advance.

Starting in Freshman, you’ll have ten games to secure five victories to rise in the leaderboards. You’ll have the ability to choose between controlling the entire team or just one player, similar to the playstyle of MyCareer. As is the case in nearly every mode in the game, there are plenty of opportunities to win prizes. Rewards earned in Play Now Online include Virtual Currency, card packs to use in MyTeam, and apparel items to equip in MyCareer.
