Season three of The Witcher has seemingly started production, with members of the production team sharing some behind the scenes location scouting.

We’ve known for a while now that The Witcher was going to go beyond season two and it was no surprise considering how popular the show has been for Netflix. Back in December, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that scripts for the third season were “nearly done”, implying that full production wasn’t far off.

You might not have been expecting production to already be starting, however. As reported by Redenian Intelligence, several staff members working on The Witcher have started sharing images that imply that pre-production is underway and that full production isn’t far off. Some of the images were taken as far back as last week.

Over on Instagram, producer Steve Gaub shared an image of a forest captioned, “Day 1 of Location Scouting for season 3 of The Witcher. And so it begins”. He then posted a picture of a crooked tree, saying, “Another day, another scout on The Witcher. This looks like something a dwarf would use to hide from the Deathless Mother. But then again, we know the Deathless Mother is now roaming around in a different sphere”.

The most recent photo from Gaub shows some sort of castle corridor, which was captioned, “Something wicked this way comes in season 3 of The Witcher? Location scouting adventures continue”. Although it might just seem like the team is only location scouting, another photo shows a warehouse being unpacked, with Gaub promising, “We definitely won’t be going smaller in season 3”.

It’s not just Steve Gaub sharing photos either, as showrunner Lauren Hissrich also posted on Instagram to celebrate the first scouting trip of the third season. The image looks to be the same area from Gaub’s first location scout and has been captioned, “The first scout of #TheWitcher S3!”

Although work is clearly being done on The Witcher, the photos shared by Gaub and Hissrich imply that there’s still a lot of production work that needs to be done.
