Netflix’s Castlevania series will be returning for its third season soon. Like, really soon! Next month, even! In a Tweet earlier today, the streaming juggernaut confirmed that season three of the vampire-slaying saga will begin airing on March 5, 2020. Some new key art revealed a new look, but details are otherwise scarce on what is next for the show.

After a successful debut back in 2017, Castlevania was quickly renewed for a second season that aired the following year. Since then, news of the third season has been hard to come by. Everyone involved has been tight-lipped about where this show is going and what new material will be covered. With the premise being based around the NES game Castlevania III, the series will eventually need to progress to different installments from Konami’s franchise.

For the time being, we at least know Netflix hasn’t unceremoniously canned the series. With a few other video game adaptations coming to the streaming service, it seems Netflix has found a niche that wasn’t being catered to. It doesn’t hurt that Castlevania was good, though it seems fans of gaming are more hard up for actual content related to the things they love.

As for what’s next, somehow producer Adi Shankar is going to create a Devil May Cry series that relates to this Castlevania one. While they aren’t thematically too far removed from one another, it’s hard to imagine a Konami series being linked to a Capcom one. The tone of each game is so radically different that I wouldn’t expect to see Dracula show up in front of Dante.

At the same time, gamers love their crossovers. The Super Smash Bros. series is a testament to that fact. Anytime two things you love get mixed together, it creates a celebration of the very reason you’re a fan of certain IPs. It may be a cheap marketing ploy, but you get to enjoy a series in a new way thanks to that crossover.

If Netflix can somehow find a way to mash Castlevania and Devil May Cry together, then maybe we’ll start seeing an MCU styled universe of video games appear. That would be neat.
