10 The Outfits At Ernie’s

The “gas station” run by Ernie is, of course, little more than a glorified prostitution ring, where the powerful and wealthy of Hollywood find companionship. However, there’s no denying that the men that he employs, as well as Ernie himself, look very dapper in their gas attendant outfits.

The outfits are a reminder that, in Ryan Murphy’s hands, even something more than a little seedy can still manage to look quite glamorous.

Holland Taylor is one of those actresses who never seems to get quite the respect that she deserves but who still manages to own every role she plays. That is certainly true of Ellen, the kind-hearted, warm, and generous higher-up at Ace Studios.

This outfit manages to capture the sort of down-to-earth charm that Ellen always seems to have, as she coaches the young people in her charge and tries to bring out their fullest potential as potential stars.

4 Archie’s Oscars Suit

What’s not to love about the character Archie? As a gay man of color, he seems doomed to be forever sidelined in Hollywood. However, through persistence and a little bit of luck, he manages to win an Oscar for his screenplay.

In addition to being open about his relationship with Rock Hudson, he also wears this marvelous white suit, which catches the light in the theater and reminds the entire audience that he’s not ashamed of who he is.

In less capable hands, Ernie would probably have been a cad of a character that’s almost unredeemable. Fortunately, Dylan McDermott brings out the best in this character. His outfit at the Oscars is worthy of particular note.

It’s probably not at all surprising that Patti LuPone, one of the most powerful presences in the entire series, should also have one of the best outfits.

Given that the Oscars is one of the most important nights-not only for Avis, but also the movie industry as a whole – it makes sense that she dresses up for the occasion. In fact, with her outfit, she could, with some degree of accuracy, claim that she is the queen of Hollywood itself.
