Netflix’s newest I Am Not Okay With This is definitely set to be a hit considering that it was brought to us by the producers of Stranger Things and the director of The End of the F***ing World – and the show really does have that same atmosphere and tone that is so beloved by millions of fans.
But while there are many great things about the supernatural coming-of-age comedy-drama teen series, the characters are undoubtedly one of the best things about it. Here are the I Am Not Okay With This characters and the Hogwarts houses they would be sorted into.
10 Smoke Man: Slytherin
We still haven’t seen the main villain of the show, which is not a bad thing because the focus is always on our main character Sydney who is struggling with her inner feelings as well as getting into conflict with the people around her. The only apparent supposed villain (or Sydney’s next mentor, it’s still unclear) is the Smoke Man. Judging by the fact that Smoke Man constantly follows Sydney, making her distressed quite a few times, his intentions are probably evil. Though we don’t know much about him, his “wait and see” tactic is very characteristic of that of Slytherins.
9 Jenny Tuffield: Slytherin
The reason why the story holds up so well without revealing the main villain just yet is because many of the show’s characters behave like jerks. One such character is Jenny Tuffield, who was supposedly being treated for alcoholism at some point but still keeps drinking. Jenny has the attitude of a girl continually breaking the rules who doesn’t even find it wrong to sleep with a guy who has a girlfriend. Perhaps we will get some more information about her backstory in the following seasons, but for now, it is safe to assume that she is also a Slytherin.
8 Mr. File: Ravenclaw
Mr. File does not play a significant role in the series yet, but because the story is set at school during many scenes, we will probably see more of him in the future. For now, he seems to be a bit irritated with his students and doesn’t make a difference between those who are acting up and those who don’t deserve to be punished.
Considering that he decided to become a teacher, he is probably very smart in some way, though he does seem to be tired of his job. Mr. File looks like he is a disillusioned Ravenclaw who has been disappointed by his life.
7 Liam Novak: Hufflepuff
Liam Novak is most certainly the only person Sydney truly cares about and loves. She always tries to protect Liam and does everything to make him happier (even if this means embarrassing herself in front of his friends, which doesn’t end up well for them both). Liam is one of the few characters who is an unconditional optimist on the show. He is a very creative young boy who enjoys life and loves his family even though he lost his father, and his mother and sister keep arguing. Obviously, Liam is a Hufflepuff.
6 Ricky Berry: Slytherin
Ricky Berry is Brad Lewis’s best friend, who seems to be following him around – both literally and figuratively. Just like Brad, he likes acting like a jerk and keeps bugging Sydney from time to time (for example, that first time during the lesson when Sydney refuses to laugh at a stupid joke). Ricky is most likely a Slytherin because he doesn’t show any other personality traits that would set him apart. That being said, he could potentially be a Gryffindor whose negative characteristics have been turned up to the maximum, including ego-centrism and vanity.
5 Brad Lewis: Slytherin
Ricky’s best friend and the leader of the two, Brad Lewis, is also dating Sydney’s best friend, Dina. According to Sydney, he “noticed” Dina only after she had matured over the summer and became hotter in several ways. Otherwise, he would have never even looked at her.
Brad only tries to appear like he is a good guy which is definitely a Slytherin trait. Once he doesn’t get what he wants, he starts doing everything to bring down the person he blames the most for his own mistakes – Sydney. Luckily for her, her inner superpowers deal with the problem before he can do anything to change her reputation completely.
4 Maggie Novak: Gryffindor
Maggie Novak is Sydney and Liam’s hardworking mother who works so much that she barely sees her children. And when she does see them, she usually asks Sydney to do some chores or take care of Liam, which often frustrates Sydney, who still can’t get over the death of her father. Though Maggie might not be the best mother, she and Sydney are both at fault because neither of them wants to establish better communication. Nevertheless, they figure it out by the end of the first season, and the family becomes closer to each other and more understanding. All things taken into account, Maggie is a Gryffindor.
3 Dina: Hufflepuff
Just like Liam, Dina seems to be a happy person most of the time and an optimist too. She sees the best things in people, which is likely why she is dating Brad despite Sydney telling her that he isn’t worth it. Of course, Dina soon realizes what is right. Dina is a Hufflepuff. She is kind, friendly, and fun-loving, though she can still talk about serious things when the situation demands it. In other words, Dina is the perfect friend and the best person Sydney will ever meet.
2 Stanley Barber: Ravenclaw
It’s funny how the actor, Wyatt Oleff, already played a well-known character with a similar name – Stanley Uris from IT. Nevertheless, the two characters couldn’t be more different from each other. Stanley Barber is an eccentric guy who isn’t afraid to look weird even in front of a girl he likes. Stanley wants to build an excellent reputation for his family name. He is a funny person who has a unique view of our world, and once he learns about Sydney’s powers, he immediately wants to help her with them. Undoubtedly, Stanley is a Ravenclaw who is quite similar to the strange Luna Lovegood.
1 Sydney Novak: Gryffindor
Though she might be unpleasant at times, Sydney Novak is a good-hearted person. She loves her family and even realizes that she was unjust to her mother once they have a mature conversation. She also wants Dina to be happy even if it means that she will be dating Brad, who Sydney absolutely can’t stand. Sydney is afraid of hurting the people around her and wants to isolate herself from society to avoid such situations. She gets mad at Stanley when he provokes her, and she nearly hits him with two bowling balls, but she still tries to avoid him afterward for good reasons. She is also quite brave, and many other things point to the fact that she is a Gryffindor.
