Netflix’s newest show, Never Have I Ever, is a teen comedy that tells the story of an American-Indian girl called Devi as she navigates high school and deals boy troubles, and more seriously the loss of her Dad, along with the help of her two friends Fabiola and Eleanor.

She goes through a lot and so does her friends, they get into fights and eventually makeup again, but Devi really does make a lot of mistakes when it comes to friendship. They all kind of have rocky moments throughout the show, so here are 10 times she was an awful friend.

10 When She Abandoned Them For Paxton

Both Fabiola and Eleanor have their own dilemma’s alongside what Devi is dealing with. Eleanor finds out that her absentee mother, who she believed was an actress on a cruise ship, hadn’t left at all and was working at a restaurant.

Both Fabiola and Eleanor need Devi’s company and instead, she goes off to Paxton’s because he needs her for something.

9 When She Tries Setting Her Friends Up

Earlier on in the show, Devi’s main mission is to get her and her friends boyfriends, because she thinks it’ll make them cooler. Of course, she shouldn’t think that, but it doesn’t stop her from trying help Fabiola, who’s gay and hasn’t come out at this point, and Eleanor, who already has a boyfriend. It doesn’t help that they also didn’t tell her any of this,

8 When She Tried To Fix Things With Eleanor’s Mother

Devi interferes with a lot of her friends issues and insists that she’s being a good friend when really she isn’t. For instance, she confronts Eleanor’s mother and tells her to be there for her, which ultimately ends up in them sharing information with her that she nearly spills to all their mothers. Bad move, Devi.

7 When She Ruined Ben’s Model UN Experience

Devi and her academic rival, Ben, both go on a trip away for a Model United Nations Conference. Devi and Ben are constantly trying to top each other’s achievements, but eventually, they have a friendly conversation and become friends.

This all goes downhill when Devi threatens to start a nuclear war against the US, the country he’s representing, which she definitely can’t do. It ruined the start of a great friendship.

6 The Fight With Her Friends At Ben’s Party

Devi gets into an awful fight with her friends at Ben’s party, and she mostly seems like she really doesn’t know what she’s done wrong. This is a recurring theme wherein her eyes she’s the centre of the universe. The fight turns nasty pretty quickly and ends with Devi in a pool, which is sort of what she deserved for everything she’d done.

5 When She Thinks She’s Being Replaced

When Devi gets into a fight with Fabiola and Eleanor, they start to hang out with Jonah instead of her. Devi naturally thinks that they are trying to replace her, when she realises that they actually really like spending time with him. If she was a good friend she would have trusted them to not exclude her and also realised her mistake and apologised by now.

4 When She Lied About All The Rumours

Devi’s main issues begin when rumours start to spread that she and Paxton Hall-Yoshida have been sleeping together, when all they are is friends. Everyone believes her, even Fabiola and Eleanor because she hasn’t told them otherwise. She let her friends believe a lie for nearly the entire series and it comes crashing down spectacularly.

3 When She Doesn’t Acknowledge Their Issues

Devi is very good at ignoring everyone else around her and focusing on her own issues, even though her friends are also struggling.

On several accounts, she ignores their issues, at Fabiola actually calls her out on this by saying she even had to comfort her when Nick Jonas married Priyanka Chopra. Devi says that it was a hard time for her, which completely dismisses what Fabiola was trying to say.

2 When She Tells Eleanor and Fabiola Her Problems Are More Important

It’s no secret Devi is going through a lot. She’s trying to get the know the boy she likes and fix things with him, all while dealing with the processing grief over her father’s death.

But, that doesn’t mean she’s the centre of attention, and she’s got to be there for her friends. Unfortunately, when they tell her they need her, she just says that whatever they’re dealing with, her problems are way worse, which is an awful thing to say to anyone.

1 When She Doesn’t Tell Her Friends About Paxton

Usually when a rumour spreads about yourself, the first thing to do is confirm or deny it, something that Devi doesn’t do either of. It’s even worse that while Devi was setting her friends up with other guys, she didn’t bother telling them that this entire time she’d had a huge crush on Paxton.

It’s a big part of friendship’s to be open and truthful with each other, and this is not the case when it comes to Devi, Fabiola and Eleanor.
