Warning: Contains spoilers for Dexter: New Blood episode 6.

Angela has found Iris’ body in Dexter: New Blood and now she might ask Dexter to kill for her as she seeks revenge against the Runaway Killer. Despite Dexter’s impressive kill count, in Dexter: New Blood he has only killed twice. The second of these kills was for his own personal vengeance and now his third kill might come in the form of vengeance for Angela’s loss.

In Dexter: New Blood episode 6, “Too Many Tuna Sandwiches,” Angela Bishop (Julia Jones) finds the remains of her high school friend Iris in a cave. She has good reason to think that the death of her old friend – which had been discounted by the police as a disappearance – might be tied to Kurt Caldwell. This is supported by the fact that, when she had previously told Kurt that they would search the caves for Matt, he quickly called off the search. Angela leaves the caves visibly upset, and then decides to call Dexter.

Angela has only recently discovered Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) true identity, previously thinking her boyfriend to be Jim Lindsay. Despite being on the outs with him at the time, he was her first call is to Dexter and not to the police station. Here’s why that might mean that Angela is going to ask Dexter to kill Kurt before the end of Dexter: New Blood.

Angela Already Has A Forensics Expert

New Blood Theory Angela Will Ask Dexter To Kill

When Angela calls Dexter and says that she needs him, the first thought might be that she wants his expertise as a forensics specialist, which she learned about from his fake obituary. Dexter was a skilled forensics expert; however, his specialty was in blood spatter and Iris’ body appears to have been drained of blood. The choice to call Dexter in this situation if she just wants someone to run forensics on the scene is especially odd as Dexter: New Blood has already shown that the Iron Lake police department has access to a forensics expert as he came in to investigate Matt Caldwell’s crime scene. Although Dexter thought he was bumbling at first, he came to be begrudgingly impressed with the skill that he showed, and he would presumably be capable of handling Iris’ body and scene as well. While Angela might want Dexter as someone she knows because this is such a personal situation for her, her recent fight with Dexter seems like including him purely for forensics issues would only complicate an already emotional situation.

Angela Asks For Dexter Morgan, Not Jim

When Angela calls Dexter, he answers the phone using his alias of Jim Lindsay but Angela says “I don’t need Jim. I Need Dexter Morgan.” If the reason for calling Dexter was more about having someone she was emotionally close to work the scene, then it would make more sense for her to want Jim, the persona that she has a relationship with, rather than the largely unknown-to-her Dexter. This suggests that there is something that Angela recognizes as special about Dexter that he can offer to her in his role as Dexter that no one else on the police force could do.

Angela Heard About The Bay Harbor Butcher

New Blood Theory Angela Will Ask Dexter To Kill

For Angela to think that Dexter might be a killer and inclined to kill a killer for her, she would have to know more about his past. Fortunately, in the previous episode, the show set her up with that knowledge. When Angela goes to a convention in Dexter: New Blood episode 5, “Runaway,” she hears Angel Batista (David Zayas) give a talk about the Bay Harbor Butcher and Molly mentions that it was someone in the department without mentioning that it was Sergeant James Doakes. The connection between the Bay Harbor Butcher’s victims is mentioned to be the fact that they had all gotten away with crimes. Finally, Angel mentions to Angela that Deb Morgan and her brother both died and that her brother had a son called Harrison.

It is somewhat of a leap for Angela to take this information and combine it with Audrey’s information that Jim is not Dexter’s real name, however, Dexter: New Blood concludes episode 5 with Angela finding his obituary. From there it would be no greater leap to consider that he might be the Bay Harbor Butcher, having faked his own death to move on from his crimes. If she can put together Dexter’s real identity, then Angela is also capable of working out that Dexter might have been a serial killer and might be willing to kill a murderer for her.

Angela Wants Revenge for Iris

All of this suggests that Angela might suspect that Dexter is a serial killer who targets other killers and could have called him to ask him to do just that. The final piece of the puzzle is justifying her motivation to request this murder when she is chief of police for Iron Lake. While the murder of a friend is significant, that alone would not be enough to justify her breaking the law.

However, in Dexter: New Blood, Iris’ death goes much deeper for Angela. Iris’ disappearance is clearly a huge driving force behind Angela having sought a career in law enforcement. To some degree, every missing person on Angela’s board represents Iris to her, and Iris in turn represents every other missing woman. Whether Angela believes that all of the disappearances can be tied to the Runaway Killer or not, the fact that she connects them in her mind and has searched for Iris for over two decades means that finding her body could be enough to break her into wanting blood rather than police-style justice. This sets up the perfect reason to call Dexter, to help Angela get revenge and in turn allow him to regain a warped form of trust from Angela.
