As Konoha’s seventh Hokage, Naruto exemplifies immense strength beyond his youth in Boruto: Next Generation but one fan art explores the possibilities of what the technical Genin would look like as an advanced Jonin.

In the Naruto sequel series Boruto: Next Generation, Naruto’s dream of becoming Hokage comes true as he and the rest of the Konoha 11 now have children of their own. Naruto’s son Boruto is now an upcoming genin along with Sasuke and Sakura’s daughter, Sarada, and synthetic snake ninja Mutsuki. The new team 7 is under the leadership of jonin shinobi Konohamaru, who mentored under Naruto. In the newly developed Konoha, Naruto’s reign as Hokage is met with challenges as he learns to juggle fatherhood and progressing technology in the ninja world. Although reaching his goal as Hokage, Naruto in terms of shinobi hierarchy is still technically a Genin.

A Reddit fan art post shared by u/Gusmaox shows Naruto as a full-fledged jonin. The future Hokage’s wearing the same jonin outfit as his previous mentors Iruka, Kakashi, and Konohamaru. His outfit incorporates the classic green vest and the Uzumaki clan symbol on the left arm. Of course, his signature Konoha headband carries a different meaning now that he’s Jonin. The entire getup is satisfying to see, as it shows Naruto finally assuming the role of mentor after he’d spent so long mouthing off to his teachers when he was younger.

The fan art opens the possibilities of Naruto becoming a Jonin had he retaken the Chunin exams. Unfortunately, during his training with Jiraya, Naruto was absent from the village at the same time as the exams. Upon arrival, Naruto’s power was on par with his friends but in terms of rank, most of the Konoha 11 were already official Chunin. Even after the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto never achieves Chunin or Jonin status even though having more than enough time and experience to pass each exam. An interview by Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto, admits to Naruto becoming Hokage as a Genin as a joke and ode to the character’s personality.

A hilarious sentiment that truly exemplifies Naruto’s persistence in achieving his goal as Hokage while referencing his terrible test-taking skills. However, what Naruto lacks in Shinobi rank he makes up for in strength and experience. As Hokage, Naruto continues to show immense power with his Byron Mode which proves that he still far succeeds the need for a Jonin rank.
