From her quirky personality to her memorable outfits, this bombshell makes everyone laugh, while still being one of the kindest characters to hit the television screen. Of course, like every character in movies or television, there are some great traits to be seen – but also some bad ones. Jessica Day is no exception, so it’s time to reflect on this character. There are things about her that audiences love and some that they honestly can’t stand.

Jess is a pretty understanding person, but she also thinks she knows what is best. This is especially the case when she first dates Nick, and cannot handle how he deals with his finances, and well, all of his responsibilities.

While Jess is probably right, she still definitely sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong. She likes to micromanage and organizes things so much that the rest of the gang might actually have less fun.

If there’s one thing great about Jessica Day, it’s that she’s very caring. She puts everyone above herself, and while it actually ends up hurting her at times, it’s certainly something that everyone can respect about this character.

She will do anything for her friends, and she puts everyone’s needs before her own. This is what makes her an excellent teacher, and also a wonderful friend and partner. Everyone needs a Jess in their life.

8 Fans Hate: She’s Awkward

This might be one of her most hilarious qualities, but it’s also definitely one of her most cringy. Besides being unable to say ‘mature’ words, she also is terribly unable to stop talking when she’s digging herself a grave.

From dancing on tabletops to making weird voices, she might not be the first character any fan would want to take out in public. It’s cute and quirky at times, but it’s mainly just super awkward.

7 Redeeming: She’s Creative (& Unique)

This character is the one all fans would trust to solve or create just about anything. She sees the world in a totally different way. From polka dots to bookbinding to decorating, Jess is a woman of many talents – and creativity is definitely one of them.

Besides her creativity, she is just totally unique. Her wardrobe, projects, and problem-solving are out of this world, and it’s impressive how one-of-a-kind everything she does truly is.

While this also makes her an empathetic and understanding person, all of her friends and family definitely better be prepared for some waterworks, a mental breakdown, or a tantrum. This fiery character feels it all.

5 Redeeming: She’s Independent (& Feminist)

Jess loves her friends, and while she definitely seeks partnership, she’s also a strong and powerful and independent woman. She is a total icon for all women out there, and this feminist knows she’s good enough on her own.

She is willing to make her own decisions (eventually) and isn’t out to rely on or give up her own thing for anyone else. She is confident in herself and is accomplishing her own goals. She’s pretty awesome for this reason.

4 Fans Hate: She’s Indecisive

Jessica relies a lot on the ‘universe’ or she simply just isn’t capable of taking a stand. She certainly has her morals and values, but outside of that, she definitely flips and flops all over the place. She often gets lost in thinking about her path and the future.

For someone that focuses a lot on her feelings, she usually lets them get super messy. From not dating Robby to dating Nick to flying to England to becoming a principal, she’s definitely a bit chaotic.

3 Redeeming: She’s Actually Charming

It seems weird that this awkward and quirky character can be charming, but it’s totally true. She has a magnetic personality that everyone, fans and characters alike, can’t help but love.

No matter what Jessica Day does, it’s impossible to hate her. She does everything out of love, and her quirks and humor make her totally adorable – and definitely charming.

2 Fans Hate: She Plays It Safe

If there’s one thing that fans can agree is totally frustrating and annoying about Jess, is that she’s unwilling to be bold and take risks. She is always herself, but she is afraid to put herself out on a limb when failure is an option.

From trying to become principal to getting Sam, Jess lets a lot of opportunities evade her because she is afraid to reach for them and fail. This might be normal for many, but it’s one of her worst, and saddest, qualities.

1 Redeeming: She’s Totally Authentic

One thing that every other character on this series – and probably every fan – can learn from Jess is definitely her authenticity. She wants everyone to like her, but she isn’t willing to change anything about who she is to please anyone.

Her iconic speech to Nick’s lawyer girlfriend sums this up wonderfully, and she can rock polka dots, swerve for birds, and touch glitter all she wants – because she’s totally true to herself. This makes her totally likable and is a super redeeming quality.
