Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019 and Square Enix is offering fans a bizarre way to play the game, as a controller in the shape of one of the iconic Slime enemies is going to be released alongside the game in Japan.

The Nintendo Switch offers unparalleled comfort with its controllers. If you are playing in an enclosed environment, then it’s easy to detach the two Joy-Cons and hold them in a way so that you don’t have to keep your arms in one position. The Pro Controller is also designed to be as comfortable as possible and it’s one of the best controllers available on the market.

The Dragon Quest Slime Controller for Nintendo Switch ignores all pretenses of comfort and accessibility, as you are expected to hold a huge lump of plastic in the shape of a teardrop and use it as a controller. You also need to hold the Dragon Quest Slime Controller upside down since its buttons and joysticks are located on the bottom of the Slime.

The controller comes with some added benefits over the official Nintendo Switch controllers, however. It has a better quality D-pad and comes with two turbo buttons. The controller even comes with a box in the shape of a treasure chest from the Dragon Quest series, as well as a paper stand for the Nintendo Switch itself.

The Dragon Quest Slime Controller might seem tempting to someone who wishes to play the Hero from Dragon Quest when he is added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but most tournaments ban the use of controllers with turbo buttons, so Dragon Quest fans wouldn’t be able to use the controller at local fighting game competitions.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will be released for the Nintendo Switch on September 27, 2019. The Dragon Quest Slime Controller is currently only available in Japan from the Square Enix store and will be released alongside the game.
