Pokémon fans were treated to a welcome surprise during Nintendo’s latest Pokémon Presents broadcast when it was announced that New Pokémon Snap will be one of the newest titles set to grace the Nintendo Switch. The original Pokémon Snap is one of the most popular spinoffs in the Pokémon franchise.

In the game, Professor Oak assigns young Todd Snap to document 63 of the original 150 creatures in their natural habitats during this FPS rail shooter-style game. This object of the game was to watch Pokémon interact with their natural surroundings and record endearing behavior you won’t see inside of a gym.

The teaser trailer isn’t even two minutes long and but it’s packed full of Pocket Monsters spanning the first generation to the newest members from the Galar region. This gives the game an all-encompassing feel, promising players the chance to experience eight regions’ worth of Pokémon designs. It’s not clear how many different Pokémon are in the game yet, but there’s over 800 in the Pokédex to choose from now.

Here are all of the Pokémon we could identify in the trailer, as well as a closer look at the exotic locales players can explore.

Beaches

From the information we have so far, it seems like the entire game will take place on a chain of tropical islands somewhere in Pokémon’s established world. The beaches are filled with water Pokémon like Blastoise and Pyukumuku, but we also see land-based Pokémon like Zangoose and Vivillon hanging out by the ocean. Pyukumuku is a shellfish Pokémon that actually lives in the ocean, but they can survive on the beach when they’re onshore. Be on the lookout for Crabrawler boxing matches while exploring beach regions.

Island natives have a tradition called “Pyukumuku chucking,” which involves throwing them back into the ocean. Pikachu can also be seen hanging out on the beach, munching on an apple. Pikachu is the most recognizable Pokémon of all time and an absolute staple of the original Pokémon Snap. New Pokémon Snap wouldn’t be complete without the iconic electric mouse.

Shallow Seas

Shallow seas are somewhere between the ocean and the coral reef. Sea-faring and amphibious Pokémon call this region home. Not only do we see a Squirtle hitching a ride on a Lapras but we also see a Sharpedo feeding and a pod of Mantyke leaping out of the water. Bidoofs are frolicking in the water with Drifblims floating around the reef being patrolled by the mysterious water fairy Pokémon, Primarina.

Wailords, the giant whale Pokémon, can also be seen in this area. These gentle giants are anxious eaters that can ruin a fisherman’s catch if they get too nervous. Flocks of Pelippers also fly around the tall rock faces jutting out of the water — the same rockfaces where you’ll see Wingulls nesting.

Jungles

Once the safari heads inland, virtual photographers will trek through the thick tropical foliage of the Pokémon jungles. Jungles are filled with more than just Grass-type Pokémon, but also insect, fire and electric-types as well. You’ll even find Pidgeots fishing for helpless Magikarp in watering holes and ponds. Nocturnal Pokémon like Hoothoot enjoy the dark and they can be found amongst the jungle undergrowth.

Pichu and Scorbunny hang out on the back of a Torterra like it’s a four-legged Lazy Boy. There’s also a quick glimpse of Emolga soaring through the canopy’s shadow using stored static electricity. These flying electric Pokémon gather in flocks to blot out lightning and thunderstorms to absorb electricity in the air.

Grasslands

The island’s inland regions, meanwhile, are made up of grasslands and plains. The open terrain makes for easy photos and a great backdrop thanks to large herds of Bouffalant roaming about with Dodrio and Vivillon. Meanwhile, Grookey, the grass-type Pokémon, plays beats with their special stick that revitalize flora in the area.

A choreographed group of Bellossom dance and sing to viewers at the end of the trailer. They also inform future players, helpfully, that this teaser was created with an unpolished game that is still being developed.
