Players will first gain access to New Pokemon Snap’s River (Night) course once they’ve reached research level 2 in the course’s daytime variant. Though there are only two research levels available, it’s still an action-packed course with a ridiculous amount of Pokemon to find and photograph. Three of these Pokemon have special photo requests attached to them, each of which provides some interesting and unique four star photo opportunities.

Unfortunately, two of the three requests can only be completed once players have reached research level 2, meaning that players will need to complete two or three runs before they can get started. The good news is, this can be done fairly quickly. What’s more, all three requests can easily be completed in a single run if players know what they’re doing, so it shouldn’t be as time-consuming as some of the other courses in New Pokemon Snap.

Diving Spot Request Guide

Upon their first visit to the River (Night) course, players should notice a Feraligatr high up on a cliff above the spot where it first pops out of the water in the daytime version of the course. After seeing it for the first time, they’ll receive a request from Todd asking them to investigate the source of a loud noise he heard while exploring the river. As it turns out, it was the Feraligatr that made it.

To see this for themselves, players will need to hit the Feraligatr up on the cliff with a Fluffruit so that it runs out of sight. Shortly before arriving at the first set of rapids, they should look up and slightly to their right. They’ll see Feraligatr diving off the cliff above them, causing a huge splash that forces the NEO-ONE ashore while simultaneously providing a nice four star photo opportunity.

Capturing the moment on camera can be a little tricky due to how quickly the action takes place, so players may want to consider using Burst Mode to improve their chances. Providing the photo tracks as being of Feraligatr though, it doesn’t matter how much (or indeed, how little) of the Pokemon is actually in the shot, so it shouldn’t be too tricky.

Majestic Ursaring Request Guide

Once players reach research level 2, they’ll encounter an Ursaring standing over the river just before the final set of rapids. After finishing the run, they’ll then receive a LenTalk request from Phil, who asks the player to try and snap a decent photo of Ursaring fishing. To say that the Pokemon’s angling technique is a little unorthodox would be a bit of an understatement.

After receiving the request, players should return to the same spot and look for some Magikarp swimming upstream. As the second one approaches, they should illuminate the nearby Crystabloom and then perform a scan while the Magikarp is directly beneath Ursaring. If timed correctly, the illuminated Magikarp will leap out of the water and slap Ursaring with its tail.

Players will be able to get four star photos of both Pokemon when this happens, although the one they’ll need to hand in should be tracked as a picture of Ursaring rather than Magikarp. That said, both Pokemon will need to be in the frame, so a wide shot is definitely better. Burst Mode can help here too, although the timing window for the shot is fairly wide and so most players shouldn’t need it.

Lurking In The Water Request Guide

The final request in the River (Night) course requires players to snap a photo of Gyarados climbing up the waterfall. To receive it, players will need to reach research level 2 and scan the area above the waterfall to get a message about a Pokemon climbing it. They’ll then receive the Lurking in the Water request from the Professor immediately after completing the run.

Getting Gyarados to climb the waterfall isn’t too difficult, but it does require a fair amount of prep work. First, players will need to make the Feraligatr dive into the water by hitting it with a Fluffruit while it’s on top of the cliff. If done correctly, they’ll then see two Magikarp sleeping on the riverbank to the right of the waterfall, which they’ll need to wake up by pelting them with Illumina Orbs and then scanning the area. Finally, players should illuminate the Crystabloom behind the waterfall and then sit back and wait.

After a second or two, all of the Magikarp will begin leaping into the area, summoning a mighty Gyarados from the depths. The blue giant will then proceed to climb the waterfall and players can get a four star photo of it doing so to complete the request. A few moments later, the Magikarp will climb the waterfall too, which also counts as a four star photo, though only a shot of Gyarados can be used to fulfill the Professor’s request.
