Aspiring Pokémon photographers have had a bit of time already to explore the many species available to capture in image form in New Pokémon Snap. The game’s Lental Region, however, is filled with Pokémon from the mainline series’ many regions, with some having a bit more representation than others.

From Kanto to Galar, Pokémon fans have spent years exploring regions far and wide through video games, anime, and manga that depict the always-growing number of creatures in the series. With so many Pokémon to find in the Lental region, it may help trainers to know which of the series’ regions are most represented and which they’ll have to keep a careful eye out for.

8 Galar (8 Species)

As the most recent Pokémon region in the franchise, the UK-inspired Galar region is still fresh in fans’ minds from Pokémon Sword & Shield, which may be part of the reason why New Pokémon Snap has so little of this generation’s species among its roster. There are still a handful of Galarian creatures to be found around Lental though.

There are only eight representatives from the Galar region in Lental, at least as far as can be seen in this game. This includes all three initial starters and adorable ice bugs Snom and Frosmoth, among others. Even though they are few, this generation of Pokémon are quite the photogenic bunch.

7 Alola (19 Species & 3 Alolan Forms)

The Alola region is one of the more distinct regions in the Pokémon universe, taking its inspiration from the Hawaiian islands and sporting plenty of unique Pokémon (some of which are plenty powerful), as well as Alolan forms of previously introduced creatures. In New Pokémon Snap, though, Alolan Pokémon and Alolan forms of Kanto Pokémon are not as common as some other regional species.

The surfer-inspired Alolan form of Raichu can be found hanging out on Blushing Beach, and Lental’s icier areas are home to Alolan versions of Sandshrew and Vulpix. Plenty of picture-perfect Alolan originals can also be found in the game, including Drampa, Mareanie, and Sandygast, as well as Primarina, the final evolution of Alola’s water starter Popplio.

6 Kalos (21 Species)

The France-inspired Kalos region introduced plenty of new Pokémon to the franchise, including cute, cool, and downright scary creatures, many of which are available to photograph in New Pokémon Snap. A few Kalos legendaries have also found their way to the Lental region, making the photographic journey even more exciting.

While Kalos’ starters don’t make an appearance in Lental, plenty of the region’s most iconic creatures do, including adorable panda Pancham and the imposing dinosaur duo of Tyrantrum and Aurorus. Ambitious photographers, however, will be most excited by the opportunity to glimpse the majestic Xerneas or the glittering Diancie, two of the game’s legendary Pokémon appearances.

5 Sinnoh (27 Species)

With the highly awaited release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl coming up, the Sinnoh region is poised to make a big return to the franchise. In Lental, though, there are still a decent number of Sinnoh-original Pokémon for photographers to track down, but lining up the perfect shot may not be easy with some of these critters.

Starter Piplup and starter final evolution Torterra both make appearances in Lental, but many fans have been lamenting Sinnoh’s own Finneon being picked up out of the water by a predatory Wingull, making for quite the photo op. The adorable little legendaries Shaymin and Manaphy can also be found hiding in the region, making for some adorable shots.

4 Unova (30 Species)

Largely based on New York, the Unova region was a big departure for the Pokémon franchise, which had previously had regions inspired by different areas of Japan. As such, Unova has added the newest Pokémon to the series out of any region, including Gen 1’s iconic Kanto region, and a lot of those creatures also appear in Lental, ready to be photographed.

Unova fans can find all sorts of representation in Lental, from fuzzy bat Woobat to grass serpent Serperior and from the utterly adorable Trubbish and Vanilluxe to the mysterious Golurk and Beeheeyem. The wide variety that Unova offers in its Pokémon also means that they can be found in all corners of the Lental region.

3 Hoenn (34 Species)

The Hoenn region’s many fans will be delighted with New Pokémon Snap’s representation of the region, given that it’s one of the most prominent regions in the game’s selection of photographable Pokémon. There are plenty of unique offerings, not least of which is the cherub-like legendary Jirachi, who can be found in Lental’s Ruins of Remembrance.

Other than Jirachi, Lental’s diverse topography is home to species like fiery starter Torchic, living lily pad Lotad, and the icy Snorunt evolutionary line. Even stranger species like the wolflike Absol, the giant-mouthed Mawile, and prehistoric plant Cradily make for unique and exciting photo ops.

2 Johto (35 Species)

Although it is arguably not as well-remembered as the original Kanto region’s Pokémon species, the Johto region is still iconic and, luckily, photogenic, as it boasts the second-most species in the Lental region. From legendary beasts to critters that players first encountered early on in Pokémon Gold & Silver, Johto’s presence in Lental is not lacking in variety, either.

All across the Lental region, players can snap pictures of the likes of Furret, Hoothoot, and Ledian, alongside more imposing figures like the gigantic Steelix and the intimidating, yet majestic Houndoom. Several legendary Pokémon from Johto can also be found in Lental, for those who know where to look, including forest spirit Celebi, dual majestic avians Lugia and Ho-Oh, and watery hound Suicune.

1 Kanto (40 Species)

The original 151 Pokémon from Kanto are very well-represented in New Pokémon Snap, with about 26% of the classic creatures making appearances in the Lental region. Although three of these 40 species appear in their Alolan forms, Kanto is still definitely the most well-represented region in this game’s cast of Pokémon.

Some highlights for Kanto fans are all three cute original starter Pokémon and their final evolutions appearing throughout the Lental region, as well as Eevee and its three original evolutions: Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon. There’s plenty of variety here, too, with humanoids like Machamp and Jynx appearing alongside more traditional animals like Pidgeot and Tentacruel. Adorable mythical Pokémon Mew can also be found by photographers with a sharp eye.
