New Pokémon Snap Trailer Didnt Include Alolan Or Galarian Forms

Just how extensive is this new Nintendo Switch sequel to Pokémon Snap going to be? Well, there’s no telling just yet, but there are certainly some glaring omissions in the trailer.

That’s right, friends. After two decades of waiting, hoping, nostalgic replays and howling on Internet forums, franchise fans have finally been given the news many had long since lost hope for: a new Pokémon Snap title is coming to the Switch, creatively titled New Pokémon Snap.

The news broke during today’s Pokémon Presents livestream, and it’s easy to see why fans around the world have reacted with such excitement. Not only was 1999’s N64 original a solid series spin-off, it also represented something more: one of players’ very first chances to see their favorite Pokémon roaming freely around a 3D environment.

The crux of the title, for the uninitiated, was that the player took the role of a young photographer named Todd. He’s been tasked by Professor Oak to photograph the little critters in their natural environment, setting off in an odd little vehicle dubbed the “Zero-One” in order to do so. The player travels on rails along a brief ‘stage,’ hits the button to take pictures of whichever Pokémon they see, and Oak grades their performance at the end.

The core appeal lies in experimenting with the items available to see how they make different Pokémon act, in order to capture the best action shots. Now on to the most obvious reason why a sequel is such big news: several hundred new Pokémon have been introduced since the first Pokémon Snap launched.

The chance to see all of our more recent favorites, in full HD, acting naturally in their own habitats, is very exciting. There’s one major worry, though: are we in for another Pokémon Sword & Shield situation where some critters don’t make the cut?

The brief announcement trailer for the game (seen below, via Prosafia Gaming) shows off a diverse range of Pokémon, from Swanna and Zangoose, to Scorbunny and Primarina. What we don’t see, however, are any Galarian or Alolan forms.

This could simply be because these unique Pokémon are being saved for a later reveal, but it does make us just a little bit wary. After all, if these Pokémon or others don’t make the cut, it could be another PR nightmare. Check out the trailer and see how many of your favorites are guaranteed to feature:

On the plus side, Bidoof is definitely going to be in New Pokémon Snap, so we’re okay on that one. Phew.
