New Pokémon Snap Would Have Been Better On The Wii U

After two decades of keeping fans in suspense, The Pokémon Company has finally announced a new Pokémon Snap game. But the series has already missed the chance to appear on a system that is tailor-made for it – the Nintendo Wii U.

The original Pokémon Snap was a photography simulator, where the player was stuck in an on-rails vehicle that allowed them to move through wild Pokémon territory. This meant that the player would move their camera from a fixed position using the N64 controller, which allowed them to get the best picture possible.

New Pokémon Snap is currently in development for Nintendo Switch and fans are excited for the series to finally return on a modern system. The only problem is that the Switch isn’t the best system for New Pokémon Snap, as it would have greatly benefited from the Wii U GamePad, possibly more than any game that appeared on the Wii U.

If New Pokémon Snap was released on the Nintendo Wii U, then the player would be able to see from within the vehicle on the TV and see through the camera on the Wii U Gamepad. This would have given a greater feeling of immersion when playing the game and would have allowed for better freedom of movement when using the camera. It could also let the player quickly look behind or above the vehicle, in order to keep them on their toes for Pokémon sightings all around the game world.

The main reason why The Pokémon Company was finally moved to creating New Pokémon Snap is due to the incredible popularity of the Switch, especially in comparison to the Wii U and its dismal sales. It’s possible that New Pokémon Snap will toy with different control schemes, such as using the Labo Camera, a smartphone, or even a second Switch/Switch Lite for the people who double-dipped. These options will be better than using the Joy-Cons, but they won’t be as effective as the Wii U GamePad, which missed out on the title that would have been perfect for it.
