New Tesla Model Y Model 3 & Model S Prices After Big Increases

The prices of Tesla’s Model Y, Model 3, and Model S abruptly increased last week, which will have been much to the dismay of anyone who was lining up a purchase. The cost of some standard models rose by a couple of thousand dollars, while other variants ballooned by up to $10,000. It must be said, though, that Tesla is no stranger to price fluctuations when it comes to its eclectic range of electric vehicles (EVs).

For instance, the price of Tesla’s Model S momentarily dropped down to $69,420 late last year. However, this slight dip in price was partly walked back months later, with the cost of the Model S eventually climbing to back over $70,000. The same can be said for both the Model Y and Model 3, which received significant price drops as recently as last month. As with the Model S and its briefly lower price, though, it seems that change was always destined to be temporary too.

Based on Tesla’s most recent EV prices, the Long Range Model Y soared from $39,990 to a whopping $49,990, while the Model 3 Standard Range Plus went up slightly from $36,990 to $37,490. The price of the Model S Plaid+ variant also received a significant price bump, from being $139,990 back in February to now costing as much as $149,490.

How Tesla’s Model Y, 3 & S Prices Have Teetered In The Past

While it might be puzzling as to why the Model Y suddenly received a $10,000 price increase seemingly out of nowhere, this isn’t exactly unknown territory for it by any means. In fact, both the Model Y and 3 used to be at higher price points. The Model Y’s current price is just basically sitting right back at the same reduced state that it was in during mid-last year when Tesla dropped its cost by $3,000.

Similarly, the Model 3’s Standard Range Plus is cheaper by about $500 now when compared to its $37,990 starting price tag back in 2020 and the same goes for its Long Range variant. The Performance variants of both the Model Y and Model 3, meanwhile, did receive some slight increases when compared to their past prices, but only by $1,000, give or take. As for the Model S, aside from its Plaid+ version receiving quite a hefty $8,500 price hike, the prices of both its Long Range and regular Plaid variants remained virtually untouched. Regardless, given how fickle Tesla’s EV prices were in 2020, it’s unlikely that its practice of fluctuating prices will change any time soon.
