New Trailer Confirms Borderlands 3 Release Date

As promised, Gearbox has unveiled a new trailer that confirms the September 13th release date for Borderlands 3 that was leaked earlier this week, as well as new information about the game’s characters. The trailer also confirms that the PC version of the game will be distributed through the Epic Games store at launch.

The trailer includes some footage already seen in the announcement trailer shown at PAX East, but it also provides us with a lot of new information on gameplay, the Vault Hunters, the enemies, and the new worlds that players will be exploring.

Yes, that’s worlds with an S. Unlike previous Borderlands titles, Borderlands 3 will allow players to leave Pandora and travel to other planets, each one with unique environments, enemies, and loot. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the new content that the game has to offer.

With a new Borderlands game comes new Vault Hunters with new classes. There is another Siren character, however, she appears to play like more of a melee character than previous Sirens. Amara’s power allows her to summon huge, ethereal arms that can beat down bad guys. She also plays very offensively, which is a definite break from Maya and Lilith.

Then there’s Moze the gunner, who can summon a rideable mech, FL4K the Beastmaster, who can control a number of different pets, and Zane the Operative, who can use a decoy ability and different gadgets. To draw comparisons with previous games, Moze is a more mobile cross between a Soldier and a Commando, FL4K plays similar to a Hunter, and Zane plays similar to an Assassin.

There are also new baddies for players to watch out for. The main antagonists for Borderlands 3 are confirmed to be the Calypso Twins, the spiky-haired duo who made several appearances throughout the announcement trailer. Their goal is to unite the different clans of bandits and use them to seize power.

Finally, Borderlands 3 will feature vehicle combat much more heavily than in previous titles and encourage more co-op play through level sync.

Borderlands 3 is now available for pre-order. Fans who pre-order the game will also gain access to golden weapon skins. The game will be released for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 13, 2019. The PC release will only be available through the Epic Game Store until April 2020, then it will be available across digital storefronts.
