Just because we’re all stuck indoors, doesn’t mean kids can’t have fun… and do so while learning! Tech Will Save Us – an online and offline learning resource for kids – has launched Game Designer Club; a free-to-join online hub for children ages 6-10+ to go to for projects and activities themed around creating and actually building video games.

Similar to other online code-learning offerings, such as Learn To Code, the club is a resource to be used in conjunction with home-schooling or as an after-school learning resource, teaching kids coding and design skills, which have the underlying benefits of fostering creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. Hours of video content, interactive manuals, projects, and coding challenges are available to users who sign up, as are physical product experiences, should members be interested in learning beyond what’s available to them online.

“The Games Designer Club is essentially a free after-school course in games design,” stated Bethany Koby, Cofounder and CEO at Tech Will Save Us. “We expect it will be of particular use to kids, as well as their parents, during the lockdown. It helps kids develop all kinds of valuable skills but we also hope it will inspire some the games designers and builders of tomorrow.”

The official launch of the Game Designer Club was May 4th (aka Star Wars Day). As such, some of the animation projects are themed after Star Wars – such as the “Lightsaber Game” – hopefully only adding to the interest of children and their parents who are checking out the club.

Games Designer Club is accessible to anyone, with many of projects requiring only an iPad. There are also four demo projects available for those who are interested in checking out the service without having to sign up.

For young children who are interested in learning more about game creation – along with parents who are currently in desperate need to keep their kids entertained – why not check out Games Designer Club, where kids can have fun and learn at the same time?
