Nintendo has shared new items as a part of its My Nintendo rewards program, including a 2021 calendar featuring some of its most iconic characters. Some recent rewards that Nintendo included earlier this year were physical Mario-themed paraphernalia. This was to coincide with the celebration for Mario’s 35th anniversary. Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which released this past September, is a temporarily available collection of 3D Mario games that includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. It will be available for purchase until March 31, 2021.

These tangible Mario rewards included a zipper case, three posters for each of the three games in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and a collection of pins. Nintendo has come under criticism for making Super Mario 3D All-Stars temporarily available. The company has also received backlash for making its new battle royale game, Super Mario Bros. 35, only available until March 31, 2021, as well. Doug Bowser, the President of Nintendo of America, disputed these criticisms by saying the games’ impermanence is “a celebration.”

However, it looks like Nintendo has added a 2021 calendar as a My Nintendo reward. It has also added a Mario & Luigi notebook as a reward, and both the notebook and the 2021 calendar are exclusive as My Nintendo rewards. The notebook can be purchased for 800 My Nintendo Platinum Points, and the calendar can be bought for 400 My Nintendo Platinum Points. The calendar includes monthly displays themed after franchises such as Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Splatoon.

Although it’s nice to see that Nintendo has added more physical rewards to its My Nintendo program, it’s frankly a bit underwhelming. This could be because the 35th anniversary Mario rewards were so interesting that the calendar and notebook seem lacking in comparison. It should also be mentioned that Nintendo has seldom included new My Nintendo rewards in recent memory. Most of the rewards are digital and bland, so it’s slightly pleasing that the company has at least added a handful of new physical rewards. Even though these two rewards are a bit lackluster when compared to the coveted Mario rewards, the calendar seems fun with its various homages to Nintendo franchises.

More recently than the 35th anniversary Mario items, Nintendo added some physical My Nintendo rewards for Pikmin fans, such as mouse pads and coasters. With that being said, maybe Nintendo is starting to get the message that its fans adore the physical rewards. They seem like the perfect collectibles for a passionate fan, and for the past few rounds of My Nintendo rewards, they’ve primarily been physical. Hopefully, Nintendo continues this pattern by introducing some adorable new items every couple of months or so.
