One of the most fun aspects of Super Mario Odyssey is the many different costumes. From going retro in the 64 outfit, to dressing up as Diddy Kong, there are so many options to choose from, making the game an even more enjoyable experience visually. On Twitter, Nintendo has announced a new outfit to be added to the game. It is inspired by one of the Broodal enemies, and available after players beat the main story.

As stated in Nintendo’s tweet, the outfit is based off of Topper, the leader of the Broodals. (Though, Madame Broode stands as the true leader of the group; fans will no doubt remember her golden Chain Chomp.) Topper’s boss battle is unique in that he uses multiple hats to move around on the battlefield in hopes of striking Mario.

Recently, Nintendo added other outfits to Odyssey, such as the Knight Armor, and the clearly Super Mario Sunshine-inspired one. A bonus mode called Luigi’s Balloon World was also added, finally bringing Mario’s famed brother into the game. In that mode, players hide balloons for others to find in a fast pace, race against the clock.

It should come as no surprise that Nintendo is still supporting the game months after its release. Odyssey has a Metacritic score of 97, making it the highest rated Mario game alongside the Super Mario Galaxies. It is easy to see why it has been critically acclaimed. The worlds are beautifully, and passionately designed. The soundtrack is wonderfully done, with lyrical themes gracing the series for the first time. Perhaps most of all, it is a tribute to the plumber’s roots. The 8-bit sequences provide nostalgia, and it’s doubtful anyone will forget the famous festival sequence.

While the DLC for Odyssey may not be as flashy as “The Champions’ Ballad” for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it is still proving to be fun. The outfits give players incentive to collect coins, and Balloon World makes for a fun little online experience with friends. According to GameIndustry.biz, Super Mario Odyssey is the highest selling Switch game, surpassing nine million copies. With numbers like that, it would be fair to assume that Nintendo will continue releasing updates. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a DLC story update where Mario finally marries Peach, delivering a true ending.
