The second wave of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ summer update is finally live – from weekly fireworks shows, new items, and the ability to visit other people’s islands in a dream, players now have a ton of new and exciting features to explore in the popular life simulator game. However, when it comes to the new and highly anticipated dream island feature, some players are experiencing a bit of a nightmare.

New Horizons’ latest update introduced the “Dream Suite”; this update allowed players to meet with special villager Luna, who helps each villager travel to another player’s island when they’re asleep. What makes visiting other players’ islands in a dream different than the normal online play feature is that nothing a visitor does is permanent, meaning they can explore as much as they want. Notably, the update included a way for players to report any islands they think violates the Nintendo Code of Conduct, which includes cheating or hacking.

Though the update is only a couple of days old, a story from Polygon explains that a number of players have reported that Nintendo is “aggressively” deleting certain dream islands. The targeted islands appear to be those who have evident signs of hacking or cheating, which were likely discovered from the new reporting feature.

One Animal Crossing player and Twitter user @wallfloweracnh posted a screenshot of an email from Nintendo, in which the company announced that their dream island had been deleted.

As a life simulator game with no true objective, Animal Crossing: New Horizons may seem like an unlikely candidate for cheating and hacking; though many players have engaged in manipulating the system, usually for decorating purposes. One popular example is of the previously reported “star fragment trees” that gained traction back in May when players figured out a way to hack the game into creating tees that grew star fragments. Though the trees were aesthetically pleasing and made for some great island photos, the hacking that it took to get them has cost some players their island.

Though this is just one example of the lengths dedicated players will go to get the island of their dreams, there are other notable cheating and hacking trends, such as growing trees with other special items or generating unique villagers on an island.

Therefore, if you’re someone whose island has relied on crafty and unique methods to get the layout of your dreams, you might want to sit out on the dream island thing for a bit. At least until all this calms down.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
