Nintendo and Dreamhack have teamed up to bring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players a European circuit, which will culminate in a tournament during summer 2020.

The esports industry is one that is growing at an exponential rate. Players are attending events all around the world, trying to prove that they are the very best at League of Legends, Dota 2, CS:GO, and a whole host of other titles. This past summer, we even saw the first-ever Fortnite World Cup, which was watched by an incredible amount of players and fans alike.

There’s an argument to be made that the competitive Smash Bros scene actually predates the term esports. We have been trying to prove we are the very best Smash players ever since we were gathered round tiny TV sets playing Melee. We’ve also been infuriated by very lucky button bashers for that same amount of time.

The trouble is that Nintendo has always appeared to be pretty reluctant when it comes to throwing its name behind Smash tournaments. Well, this is no longer the case. Nintendo has announced that it is teaming with Dreamhack to bring European players the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Circuit. It will include seven events, which will take place across Europe before culminating at Dreamhack Summer 2020 next year.

The seven qualifiers, of sorts, will take place at seven events across seven different countries, including DreamHack Winter and DreamHack Leipzig. However, the circuit will kick off in the Netherlands at Syndicate 2019. That event takes place between October 25 and 27, 2019. The finals will take place in Sweden next summer between June 12 and 15. For more information on all of the events and how you can be a part of them, be sure to pay Nintendo’s official Smash Ultimate tournament portal a visit.

Button bashers beware! You might be able to infuriate your older siblings with the odd stock battle win, but a tournament that stretches across two years might not be for you. Only Europe’s very best Smash players need apply, and if you’re headed to that first event in the Netherlands, you don’t have long to wait to show off your skills. Here’s hoping it’s enough of a success to be replicated in the U.S.
