November is one of the biggest months for video games every year and 2021 is no different, with titles like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker releasing. It’s prime time for gaming with the holidays in full swing and people seeking entertainment indoors as the weather starts to get colder. This November is jam-packed with massive games for lovers of almost every genre.

November will see the release of two of the year’s three big shooters: Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042. Both are pretty substantial departures from the last two entries in their respective franchises, but one is poised to be much more innovative. Despite Battlefield 2042’s buggy beta, the game will be a return to the modern-day setting that fans hold dearly and will also see a massive increase in things like player counts and map sizes on certain platforms.

Xbox will also release one of its two major holiday releases in November with Forza Horizon 5, which will be a major steal for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. There will also be plenty of classics with games like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and the 10th Anniversary Edition of Skyrim. Although some games like the Grand Theft Auto 5 remaster were expected to release in November, some major games were hit with delays and pushed into 2022, but there’s still plenty of great games for gamers to pick up.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Is Releasing On November 5

November 2021 Video Game Releases

On November 5, shooter fans can return to WWII with the brand new Call of Duty. Call of Duty: Vanguard features an alternate history story that sees one of the world’s first special ops groups trying to prevent the Nazis from recouping after the fall of Berlin. The Nazis are looking for a successor to Hitler and are ultimately planning a comeback, hoping to create a turning point in the war. Given it’s a fictitious take on WWII, victory doesn’t seem as much of a guarantee as it did in previous WWII entries.

As expected, Call of Duty: Vanguard will also feature the franchise’s tried and true multiplayer mode. While there are a few new modes and adjustments to make it feel fresh, it’s still the same high-octane, explosive multiplayer that fans have come to know and love. Black Ops developer Treyarch is also handling Call of Duty: Vanguard’s zombies mode which is expected to serve as a precursor to the zombies story that was introduced in Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will also help Call of Duty: Warzone segue into a new era. WWII weaponry, vehicles, and characters will join the free-to-play battle royale alongside the game’s first-ever brand-new full 150-player map at no extra cost. As of right now, the verdict is still out on whether or not Sledgehammer Games has delivered another solid entry in the long-running franchise, but there’s certainly a lot of content to be found in the new release.

Forza Horizon 5 Releases November 5 In Early Access & Then November 9

November 2021 Video Game Releases

Xbox is kicking off its big holiday line-up with Forza Horizon 5, the first entry in the racing series on Xbox Series X/S. Forza Horizon 5 takes players to Mexico for all-new races with a wide array of cars. The new entry will feature a variety of exciting landscapes from active volcanoes to jungles, acting as a culmination of everything the series has seen to date while still pushing it forward.

There will be an advanced weather system that acts according to the climate and season in the game while also allowing players to see them from a distance. For instance, players will be able to see dust storms moving across the map so they know where to avoid (or exactly where to go if they’re thrill-seekers). Forza Horizon 5 will also introduce new a map/game mode editor called Event Labs which allows players to create party games for others to partake in within multiplayer. As is par for the course with Xbox exclusives, Forza Horizon 5 will be on Game Pass when the Standard Edition launches on November 9.

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Gets A Digital Release On November 11

November 2021 Video Game Releases

Much to the surprise of fans, Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in October. The game is a collection of the beloved mainline PS2-era GTA titles, including Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. All three games will get a new coat of paint, enhanced controls that are akin to GTA 5 to make them feel more modern, and much more. Rockstar is releasing the game to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3, which was released on October 22, 2001.

Fans will be able to pick up GTA: San Andreas on Xbox Game Pass on November 11 at no extra cost, which is a pretty incredible deal. Rockstar had originally intended to release a new version of Grand Theft Auto 5 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on November 11, but recently delayed the game to March 2022 for undisclosed reasons. Nonetheless, fans will still get their GTA fix on that day as GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edtion releases on November 11 digitally, and physical copies arrive a bit later on December 7.

Battlefield 2042 Releases November 12 In Early Access & Then November 19

November 2021 Video Game Releases

Following a rather disappointing WWII entry in Battlefield V, DICE is attempting to win back lapsed fans with Battlefield 2042. The game is a return to the modern-day setting that fans have sorely missed in the last several years and also takes things up a notch. Battlefield 2042 features up to 128-players on current-gen and PC, allowing for all-out warfare on seven massive maps. Last-gen players will still be limited to 64 players and will have scaled back maps for better combat pacing, but the core content remains the same.

Although Battlefield 2042 has no campaign, DICE has ensured there is enough content to justify a full-priced game. Beyond traditional multiplayer, an Escape From Tarkov-like mode called Hazard Zone will be available. The mode drops players into a map with a handful of other squads and tasks them with extracting valuable loot. Similar to a battle royale, there are no free respawns, so the stakes are high.

DICE is also playing into the nostalgia of players with Battlefield 2042’s Battlefield Portal mode which is a collection of classic Battlefield games. At launch, the mode will feature weapons, maps, vehicles, and more from Battlefield 3, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 2042. The mode will get new content as time goes on, but players will also be able to make their own custom game types with an editor.

The last big Nintendo Switch exclusive 2021 will come via remakes of Nintendo DS’ Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The new game is a proper remake with new features such as character customization options, the ability to have Pokémon follow trainers around outside of Poké Balls, and more. The Pokémon remake’s art style has divided some fans, but it’s possible it will grow on players as they get more hands-on time with it on November 19.
