Get ready for some big changes in Hearthstone in yet another move that could shake up how players consider the meta at any given moment. Blizzard will be shifting cards from Wild into Standard, adding new class portraits for long-term achievements, and making a number of quality of life improvements to the search function and daily quests.

The first move is perhaps the most shocking, as Ragnaros the Firelord and N’Zoth the Corruptor will be temporarily thrust back into the standard pool of cards, along with 21 other cards that will be revealed on October 4th. All players will receive these cards for free for the duration of the event. The move comes at the perfect time, as five weeks of the Grandmasters Tour results have shown a meta consisting of Priest, Warrior, Druid, and Shaman decks dominating everything else. The implications of the cards being given out will not be clear until the full list is released, but this is still an outstanding way to force players to make changes in how they play on the Standard ladder and in tournaments.

Hopefully Blizzard is seeking to bring in cards that synergize well with N’Zoth, because the old god was such a powerhouse of influence when it was in standard play. It feels like only recently that players were playing both N’Zoth and Bloodreaver Gul’Dan in their decks for an unending summoning of demonic forces in a never-ending late game strategy. If the selection of cards is made with consideration for the current meta, players may see some real changes during this event for the short while it is available.

The second announcement is that new Class Portraits will be added to the game for players who reach 1,000 winds with each class. The current reward is a golden portrait and hero power with an animated look after reaching 500 wins with a class. But, since this has been the rewards since the game launched in 2014, many already have all nine classes complete or simply want something to work towards. Thankfully, all games will be retroactively counted and some players have already achieved the required number of wins.

Next, alternate search will be added to make it easier to find cards within the card collection. For example, searching either “snip” or “snap” will be enough to bring up SN1P-SN4P, the legendary mech minion. Other languages will receive similar support, such as Spanish where the name of the card is “CL1C-CL4C”, so searching “clic” will show it as a result.

Finally, Quests are receiving even more changes that work to further to make them quicker and easier to complete, as outline by Blizzard’s goals from earlier this year. Less popular quests are being cut completely.

The changes look to provide the standard meta a strong kick, and fans will doubtless be seeing some big changes once the event goes live!
