OG Esports’ Dota 2 team is as much a model for success as an esports team could conceivably be. Though the team was founded in 2014, years after some of its closest competitors, they would go on to win The International in both 2018 and 2019, making them the first and only team to pull off repeat International wins. The two tournaments netted the organization more than twenty million dollars in total prize money.

As the organization grows in renown, however, it looks to be bolstering its ranks in order to facilitate the type of growth natural to their level of success. JMR Luna, who used to work as V.P. of Content with Immortals and Head of Content with Evil Geniuses, has now been announced as the organization’s new CEO amidst the team’s growth.

With the announcement of JMR as CEO, OG has outlined some clearly defined ways he’ll be aiding the team from the get-go. His position will entail working as a go-between for the team members and its executive board, as well as generally executing the vision team-founder N0tail and former player Ceb have for OG. Furthermore, the European organization now has its eyes on expansion into North America and China in a yet-undefined manner.

Speaking about his new role, JMR expressed his excitement at having a chance to contribute to and continue building the already-impressive legacy of OG, as well as his commitment to “fairness, kindness, and competitive excellence,” which he has outlined as core pillars on which the team was built that he intends to uphold in decisions moving forward.

In addition to Dota 2, OG entered the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports scene in late 2019, though that team has yet to achieve a comparable level of success to its Dota 2 counterpart. They also sponsor Swedish Delight, a professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player with some notable wins to his name.

The biggest change JMR’s addition to the team implicitly carries with it is a transition from OG being “player-run” to “player-owned.” While the organization’s ownership is still well within the purview of its players, JMR is the first outsider to be given a significant leadership role behind-the-scenes. Given his existing successes in the esports world, in addition to a production career in Hollywood, JMR could very well be the right person to spearhead that change.
