Due to the global shelter-in-place orders brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy – an annual motorcycle racing event that’s taken place on the Isle of Man nearly every year since 1907 – has been canceled. However, racing fans will still be able to get their TT fix in digital form, while getting the chance to compete for prizes themselves.

The 2020 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy – originally scheduled to be held from May 31st to June 12th – will be taking the form of an online competition using TT Isle of Man – Ride on The Edge 2, which was recently released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

The digital tournament began on June 2nd and will finish up on June 6th. The initial event features “eight teams composed of invited competitors from the TT Races and other experienced players as part of the Isle of Man Government’s TT Lock-in program of entertainment.” Much like the recent NASCAR and NBA 2K online tournaments, pros who were supposed to be in the real race – such as Davey Todd, Conor Cummins, and Peter Hickman – are competing digitally instead. Highlights of the event can be viewed on the official iomttraces.com website and its social media channels.

Beginning on June 13th, qualifiers for non-invited PlayStation 4 and PC gamers will begin, with the winner receiving a trip for two to next year’s in-person event (provided it happens).

David Talmat, Marketing Director at publisher NACON, had this to say in regards to the all-digital event: “The Tourist Trophy is the culmination of the year for many riders after preparing for it all season. And for many fans, it’s a dream to watch it in person one day! It’s a great disappointment that the race can’t go ahead this year, but we’re delighted to set up this competition based on TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2, which will allow two people to experience the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy first-hand next year!”

Find out how you can compete in the tournament by visiting the game’s official Facebook page.
