Only Murders in the Building has become one of Hulu’s highest-performing comedies. Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, the dark comedy ended season 1 with 10 jarring episodes. Fans can expect a second season but it could be some time, since season 1 ended in October 2021. And with the series ending on a cliff-hanger, fans are more eager than ever for some answers.

On Reddit, fans have come together to share their own theories for what to expect for the second season. With Mabel, Oliver, and Charles all heading to jail in the final episode, all fans can do is imagine what could come the trio’s way in season 2. After all, a new murderer is in the building and Mabel appeared to be a prime suspect as of episode 10…

10 Cinda Will Be Back

Cinda Canning is the trio’s inspiration for their Only Murders in the Building podcast. Cinda runs her own successful podcast and ran an empire because of it. Once Oliver, Mabel, and Charles’s podcast took off, Cinda took notice because the genre was the same.

Oddly enough, Cinda was in one of the final scenes, leading fans to believe that she’ll be back in season 2. Cinda is played by guest star Tina Fey and added more depth to the show. BigFootTheYeti1 had an interesting take on Cinda’s character. They felt that Cinda was “a phony that steals ideas, so that [storyline] has to go somewhere. Maybe she’s literally just there for a short cameo but [it’s] odd to include her at the end if it doesn’t go anywhere.”

9 Will Charles’s Lucy Make An Appearance?

Charles had a few scenes on his own that didn’t have much of a backstory until later. He was cooking and recooking omelets, and Bugs Bunny and Porky the Pig followed him around from time to time. It eventually made sense when it was mentioned that Charles’s ex-girlfriend had a daughter named Lucy who loved omelets. The two became very close but sadly last he saw Lucy (and his ex) was on a family cruise with Bugs Bunny and Porky the Pig.

BigFootTheYeti1 agreed that due to how much Charles thought about Lucy, she would have to make a cameo in season 2. “Charles will probably reconnect with his ex, so I’d assume they bring in a recognizable face to fill that role,” they wrote. With his ex possibly in the picture, Lucy could make a comeback for Charles.

8 Cinda’s New Podcast Will Focus On Bunny

Cinda Canning made a fortune off her podcast, All Is Not OK in Oklahoma, but once Only Murders in the Building took off, Cinda had some competition.

In the final episode, Charles and Oliver were shocked to find Mabel lying over Bunny’s dead body in her apartment. As they were being led to police cars, Cinda was among the few watching outside their apartment building, the Arconia. Because of this, Curiouscat0049 thinks Cinda is there because she has a plan up her sleeve, not because she’s going to be an Only Murders In The Building season 2 suspect. They wrote, “I think the reason they included that scene is because season 2 is going to begin with her podcast ‘Only Murder-ers In the Building.’ The true-crime subject will be our trio for Bunny’s murder.”

7 The Threesome Snags A Good Lawyer To Defend Mabel

As great as Mabel’s outfits are, her final outfit was covered in Bunny’s blood in episode 10. Even if Mabel is innocent, she looked guilty leaning over Bunny’s dead body in her apartment.

Rzldty thinks Mabel will get out of jail eventually, but not without a good lawyer. After hopefully getting a lawyer, “They return to the Arconia but they got evicted, and thinking that being together is kinda dangerous for them, they decided to part ways.” The Redditor continues saying that the trio reunites after they find out that Cinda has a (hypothetical) podcast about Bunny’s murder…

6 Is Oscar The Murderer?

On the night of Tim Kono’s murder, Charles saw “Tie-Dye Guy” going up the stairs when everyone else was going down the stairs during a fire drill. It came to be that Tie-Dye Guy was Mabel’s good friend (and future love interest), Oscar. However, Moodtrisha thinks fans shouldn’t overlook Oscar just because of his connection to Mabel. “The day Oscar suited up to go meet the lawyer, he was wearing the same tie (and suit, I think) as Tim Kono in the first episode. Now we know that Jan killed Tim, but what’s Oscar doing wearing a dead man’s clothes?” they asked. It would be a sly plot twist if Oscar did end up being the murderer.

5 A Brady Bunch Crossover

Some fans guessed it was Jan from the start because of her sudden relationship with Charles and interest in the murder mystery podcast. Others though were surprised. Jan was one of the funnier, more endearing characters, so it was disheartening to find her to be a murderer. Reuniclus_exe thinks fans have seen this Jan character before. Due to Jan’s mental issues, age, and looks, Jan could be a crossover with Jan from The Brady Bunch. “Given the evidence, I am forced to the assumption that Jan is actually middle child and fellow psychopath Jan Brady. Perhaps she changed her last name to distance herself from her family and more successful sister,” they wrote. Could this be the odd crossover fans didn’t know they needed?

4 Bunny & Theo Were In On It Together

Bunny has the kind of dry personality that is perfectly described every time she speaks. On the contrary, Theo is a sweet young man who’s on the wrong path due to his dad’s requests. But due to Theo’s hand in Zoe’s murder and Bunny’s distaste for most people in the Arconia, these two could be a good, unsuspecting duo.

LoveLee8 agreed and wrote, “I noticed in [episode] 2 that Bunny was signing with Theo Dimas. It was happening in the background of a scene during the wake. So, Bunny knows sign language. I’m already suspicious of Theo but now I’m suspicious of Bunny too.” Could this mean Theo and Bunny were in on some of the shady happenings around the Arconia?

3 Don’t Count Mabel Out

Mabel is quiet but she’s constantly thinking of the murders in the Arconia. She’s one of the most intelligent characters in Only Murders In The Building. It’s because of her intelligence that TheDoseMan thinks she’s responsible for some of the murders.

They wrote, “I think Mabel is the one who wrote the letter to Jan and I think she might be the killer too.” In one scene, Jan found a letter on her door that said “I’m watching you.” Mabel could have had eyes on Jan the entire time and wanted to get revenge on her after she killed her friend Tim.

2 Teddy & Bunny

Only Murders in the Building has a bunch of familiar faces in the cast. Teddy, for instance, is played by the one and only Nathan Lane. Teddy also lived in the Arconia and had a dark side where he robbed from graves with his son.

One Redditor believed that it wasn’t just Teddy and Theo who teamed up, it was Teddy and Bunny. “Bunny says eight complaints are needed to evict a resident. Surely Teddy was pulling strings to keep Tim in the building if he had more than eight complaints (which it seemed like he did). So, was Bunny in on something with Teddy?” Now that Bunny is supposedly dead, what will happen to Teddy in season 2?

1 Mabel’s Aunt: Another Guest Star Spot

The first season of Only Murders in the Building had a star-studded cast. This has led to rumors of even more famous faces for season 2.

If Mabel is a suspect and is in jail for season 2, SmoreOfBabylon suggests someone important gets her out. They wrote, “Mabel’s aunt bails her out and we find out she’s one of the celebrity guest stars for [season] 2.” With Mabel living in her aunt’s Arconia apartment, it could make perfect sense to meet the woman who took Mabel in.
