When 343 Industries remastered Halo: Combat Evolved for the Master Chief Collection, they used the PC version of the game that was released back in 2003. This version was handled by Gearbox, and while Gearbox is known for creating quality games in the Borderlands series, it didn’t quite create a perfect port of this original Xbox classic.

As noted by Eurogamer, Master Chief Collection’s Halo arrived with the same visual bugs that were created when Gearbox ported the Xbox Halo over to PC. Those included certain unintended changes to character models such as Captain Keyes, completely broken transparent textures that altered the behavior of enemy shields, and a total lack of fog even in areas that likely should have been at least a little bit foggy.

The Master Chief Collection is still a definite visual upgrade overall even when compared to the original Xbox version, but 343 Industries is aiming to solve these long-standing visual bugs with a new update that was just detailed in last week’s Insider Flight update.

343 Industries is working on a visual update that will bring the current Master Chief Collection version of Halo in line with the original Xbox version and fix all those visual bugs. You can see in YouTuber GeneralKidd’s video a comparison between the old Xbox original and the Master Chief version of Halo as well as what the updated visuals will look like.

Changes include an update to Captain Keyes’ model to fix his washed-out textures, updating the Jackal shields so that they turn red when they take damage (as in the original Xbox version, and updates to the Covenant’s shield doors and Spirit anti-gravity field. Basically, anything that was slightly transparent is likely to receive a visual tweak.

Keep in mind that this update is still in the testing phase and 343 Industries hasn’t revealed a release date. Patience is a virtue and all that. The same goes for a new Halo Infinite trailer, which we’re still waiting on even though it was teased two weeks ago.
