Orlando Bloom’s still got it – the actor revealed his archery skills are still on point 20 years after he began playing the role of Legolas in the wildly successful Lord of the Rings films. Widely considered Bloom’s breakout role, Legolas is one of the founding members of the titular Fellowship of the Ring alongside Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn and Joh Rhys-Davies as Gimli. They are also joined by the quartet of Hobbits, including Frodo and Sam, the wizard Gandalf, and Boromir. This Fellowship united all the different peoples of Middle Earth in the fight against Sauron and, as the spry elf, Bloom’s Legolas is one of the standout characters.

From his instantly recognizable silver blonde locks to his agile fighting skills, Legolas is one of the key characters of the original trilogy. Bloom would also go on to reprise the role in director Peter Jackson’s prequel trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit. While not in the first film, Bloom played the role in both sequels, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies after Jackson decided to adapt elements of The Silmarillion for the films. Now, nearly 20 years on, Bloom is still channeling his now-iconic character.

In a video posted to Instagram, Bloom had his archery skills on full display. In the video, Bloom shoots an arrow at a target when it lands squarely in the circle. The actor says, “This is my victory lap and then we do another one,” before shooting a second arrow at the target. Check it out below:

The Lord of the Rings is arguably one of the most successful fantasy adaptations of all time, spurring a renewed interest in the genre and paving the way for shows like Game of Thrones to be as popular as they are. Jackson also set the standard for big screen adaptations of dense fantasy lore, setting a bar that, according to some, has yet to be met again. Amazon will try next with their own iteration of Tolkien’s world – an untitled Lord of the Rings series is set for Prime Video – and although little is known about the series, the streamer is intent on pumping as much money into it as possible.

With Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones setting such a high bar, studios and networks are scrambling to fill the void that has been left. Amazon is adapting another dense fantasy saga with Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time novels while Netflix and other streamers have their own adaptations in the works. Whether or not they stand the test of time like Lord of the Rings remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the Tolkien property endures both in popularity and in the performers who played it. Bloom’s character Legolas is one of the most iconic fantasy characters of all time and seeing his archery skills in top shape so long after the original films is a delight for longtime fans of the saga.
