If an angel can fall, can a demon ascend? Demons are the central plot point of the story in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and eventually, the protagonist meets one who is trying to do just that. Arueshalae is an Ascendant Demon, and she can join the adventuring party after Drezen is retaken. Another companion, Woljif, will often joke about dressing her up and passing her off as a Tiefling.

Recruiting Arueshalae into your party has other benefits besides adventuring, combat, a love interest, and an interesting bit of living demon lore. When she’s in the party, she can act as an advisor to the Crusade Command and provide choices in situations where morale is low or Crusaders are losing their initiative. As a Ranger of the Espionage Expert subclass, her abilities are based on Charisma, and she also has high scores in other abilities that make her ideal for multi-classing options.

Recruiting Arueshalae

The Lost Chapel is one of the last locations the party will visit on the road to Drezen. Unlike other locations on the map, this one is prompted automatically when the road to Drezen is almost clear. The Crusader Camp is beset by gargoyles, and the party must trek to the Lost Chapel to rescue whoever they can.

While scouring the snowy hills, you’ll find some unique artifacts – a harp, a sextant, and a book. Equip the book for some random fun, but keep the sextant and the harp. When you find a makeshift altar to Desna, place the harp and sextant on the altar and click on the hand symbols. If the Path of the Azata is open to your character, Arueshalae will appear in a vision, and if you speak to her, she can be recruited earlier in the Drezen prison.

Fear not if this opportunity is lost in the chaos of rescuing the army from gargoyles. As long as you interact with Arueshalae in the Drezen prison, you can recruit her later by helping her defeat a witch in exchange for some information about the Ivory Sanctum.

Complementary Companions

There are other companion characters in Pathfinder: WotR that have similar features. Slayers, Hunters, Rangers, and any character with archery skills can all complement Arueshalae with the use of Teamwork Feats regardless of the ultimate build.

  • Delamere. This companion is only available to players who have chosen the Lich Mythic Path, and she is a Slayer who specializes in ranged damage. That means she has similar abilities, so these two characters can take care of any ranged needs you have in combat.
  • Greybor. Another Slayer, Greybor has similar abilities related to tracking and travel, such as Studied Target and Quarry. A Teamwork Feat like Seize The Moment, which allows attacks of opportunity when a companion gets a critical hit, is useful here.
  • Lann. Notorious for his talent with a Longbow, Lann is a Zen Archer Monk, which means he can draw faster than Arueshalae. Putting these two in the back of your party ensures that very little remains of any enemies that try to approach the party. Most of them will be mush before the Defender even gets within range.

The Best Arueshalae Builds

Arushealae has high scores in Perception, a valuable skill in the game that requires a lot of saving throws. Any Feat or Skill that requires Perception is ideal for her regardless of the build. Many of the handy Teamwork Feats that can help coordinate your party require this skill. Combat Reflexes is related to high Dexterity, another high stat for our favorite Ascendant Demon.

Ranged Damage

  • Feats. The most straightforward build for Arueshalae, this is essentially the Sniper build for players that are heading in that direction. Focus on skills that improve her accuracy and speed with Feats like Deadly Aim, Snap Shot, Rapid Shot, and Precise Strikes.
  • Ranger Talents. With talents like Precise Shot and Many Shot already as part of her Combat Styles, continue to build on these for ranged damage. Quarry and a choice of Combat Style Feats complement these abilities.
  • Spell LIst. The ranged damage build for Arueshalae uses fewer spells, focusing instead on those that can provide extra damage. Hurricane Bow and any spell that improves Mobility, like Freedom of Movement, are also ideal.
  • Mythic Path Skills. Weapon Specialization is an obvious choice. Follow this up with Deadly Aim and Dazzling Display.

Damage and Support

  • Feats. Arueshalae’s weapon of choice, a longbow, remains the same for this build, and she still takes a role as a ranged damage dealer. However, this build can do a lot more for the party as a whole when it comes to buffs and supports. Improved Great Fortitude will help with casting in battle
  • Ranger Talents. Use Arueshalae’s skills as an Espionage Master to move quickly or undetected between enemies to help allies or surprise enemies.
  • Spell List. Rangers can also be healers, although they don’t often take on the role alone. Arueshalae’s healing powers are limited, but her collection of support spells is very useful.
  • Mythic Path Skills. Abundant Casting is essential for this build. It gives Arueshalae extra spell casting slots at lower levels, which is perfect for a Ranger since this class is limited to level four spellcasting. Other good choices include Defensive Combat Training, Abundant Arcane Pool, and Abundant Smite for that one Holy damage spell.

Multi-Classing Options

  • Bard. The role-play potential here is stellar, and it’s one way to make Arueshalae into a dedicated healer. She has the Charisma score required and a high Dexterity, and she can keep all the great ranger abilities that include a deadly talent with a longbow and various hunting skills.
  • Cleric. Another interesting prospect for RP, but less singing and more healing along with extra Divine powers. Arueshalae would make a fine priestess of Desna, and she has the Wisdom score to prove it.
  • Inquisitor. This combination gives Arueshalae more of a combat edge with some Divine spells and abilities and complements her high Persuasion skill. Judgment, a unique Inquisitor skill, gives her an attack bonus.
  • Slayer. An even spread of high Ability Scores, especially in Intelligence, makes Arueshalae an ideal Slayer. Slayers have talents that are similar to the Ranger’s, but they have additional abilities that improve their damage rating, like Stealth-abilities and Studied Target.

Prestige Classes

  • Dragon Disciple. It sounds dramatic, but this is one of the less demanding Prestige Classes when it comes to prerequisites. There are only two, the ability to cast Divine level spells and an Arcana KNowledge of five, which Arueshalae already has when you recruit her. However, this build is almost entirely for magic-using builds.
  • Mystic Theurge. Focus on Arueshalae’s Divine abilities with this progression, which is also open to Arcane spellcasters. This is another entry for the support build, and these types of magic users can harm as well as heal.
  • Student of War. Arueshalae is well-versed in Combat Expertise, and you can give her Dodge through a Feat. Players who prefer a ranged damage build can take advantage of the extra combat-related Feats and other talents that come with this Prestige Class.
