Most of the characters in Persona 4 Golden don’t have a complicated process for starting their social links. You simply go through the plot and get a few ranks automatically while making sure to visit them on a regular basis during the school year. It is fairly easy to max the starting cast of Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko without much extra work. There are a few exceptions to this rule, however.
Naoto Shirogane happens to be one of those. A mysterious detective that is far better than her older peers, her late addition to the party during Golden’s story means you won’t be making progress in her social link earlier during the campaign. I didn’t even meet Naoto until roughly 40 hours in, but then I didn’t properly discover her social link for another 10.
Thankfully, this guide will stop you from wasting precious time and getting Naoto’s ultimate persona unlocked in time for the “final” battle. You’ll just need to be diligent as you aren’t granted too much leeway.
As stated above, Naoto doesn’t join the party for roughly two-thirds of Persona 4 Golden’s runtime. She’ll join up with you towards the end of the mystery, but she becomes a vital asset to the team as she’s probably the best party member in the game. Because of her belated arrival, you won’t be able to start her social link until October 21.
Much like Kanji, there are some pre-requisites to starting the process. You’ll need both max knowledge and max courage stats, so work on those before Naoto joins. After getting both (and reaching late October), you’ll find a man in black in the Shopping District North. Answer his question with the first choice, then go find Naoto in school. She’ll be on the first floor towards the student council room.
Once doing that, you’ll simply need to spend time with her practically every day to max her before the “final” battle. You’ll have until November 27 to max this social link -much like Kanji-, so you won’t want to screw around. Having a persona of the Fortune arcana in your inventory will vastly help, as will your maxed social stats.
