A Redditor has discovered what appears to be a Monsters, Inc. reference in Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal.

While infiltrating the game’s third palace – the “Bank of Gluttony” that belongs to the greedy crime lord Junya Kaneshiro – Joker and the Phantom Thieves must make their way through a seemingly never-ending vault in order to find the Treasure. As they continue through the palace, the Thieves will encounter various “PIN Entry Panels” that require a number code in order to progress further. Each panel has a four-lettered word above each keypad that serves as a hint. As the Thieves explore the palace, they’ll come across pages from Kaneshiro’s journal, which contain hints on how to decipher each code.

At the third PIN Entry Panel, the Thieves will see the word “HUGE” written in capital letters above that panel’s keypad. By this point in the game, the Thieves should have collected a number of pages from Kaneshiro’s journal that can help them decipher the code. The final code is “2319.”

Do those numbers sound familiar at all?

If you’ve seen Monsters, Inc., you might remember a scene at the beginning of the film when George, a fuzzy orange and yellow-striped monster, gets “contaminated” with a white sock on his back as he leaves a child’s bedroom. To signal the contamination and alert the Child Detection Agency (CDC), George’s assistant, Charlie, calls out “2319! We have a 2319!” The code then incites the Montsters, Inc. factory to go into lockdown as they wait for the CDC to remove the sock and decontaminate George.

The number “2319” has become a popular meme in the Disney fandom; therefore, it shouldn’t be a surprise that some eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that this code in Kaneshiro’s palace may actually be a subtle reference to Monsters, Inc.

Sine Persona 5’s original release in 2017, Atlus has never commented on this “reference” or brought up any relationship with Disney whatsoever. Given the randomness of the reference, there is a high chance this could just be a fun coincidence.

But some type of Monsters, Inc. and Persona 5 collaboration might not be such a bad idea…

Persona 5 Royal is available now, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
