Sorry Banjo-Kazooie fans; Playtonic confirmed today it is not working on a new installment. The animal duo have seen something of a popularity resurgence as of late, thanks to their inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The original Banjo-Kazooie is continually remembered as one of the most memorable platforming games from the 90s. This platforming adventure title was (and still is) acclaimed for its level design and whimsical soundtrack. The collect-a-thon genre can go either way, but Banjo-Kazooie was arguably the best at it. Unlike Donkey Kong 64, a game many feel has not aged well, Banjo-Kazooie is always being being brought up in a prestigious light.

Banjo-Kazooie received two home console sequels. Banjo-Tooie was received well, but it would not leave a legacy like its predecessor. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is not remembered too fondly by longtime fans. That was in 2008, meaning it has been over 10 years since a Banjo-Kazooie game. Unsurprisingly, fans have have been waiting for something. When rumors started circulating that Playtonic was getting the Rare band together for a new game, fans were ecstatic. Sadly, fans are going to have to keep waiting.

Today, Playtonic stated on Twitter it was not working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Check out the company’s post below.

To completely squash any rumors, Playtonic also said in a later Tweet it was not working with the Banjo-Kazooie IP, meaning no remakes either. Many will likely be disappointed with this news, but it’s certainly a good thing Playtonic came out and said this now than let rumors continue to circulate. Letting fans believe a new Banjo-Kazooie game was coming would have hurt the hype for whatever the company is planning next.

Although Playtonic is not developing a new Banjo-Kazooie game, fans can still look forward to the company’s future projects. Yooka-Laylee was Playtonic’s first game, but unfortunately many claimed it did not live up to being a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. However, the company bounced back this year with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a well-designed and fun platforming adventure. If Playtonic continues to improve, fans have a lot to look forward to.
