Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Every now and again, Pokémon releases a new gimmick that gives special new looks to their creatures. Usually, these alternate forms are temporary and are nothing but cosmetic. There are also some Pokémon that have different forms that cannot be changed, such as Unown or special event Pokémon such as Spiky Eared Pikachu. However, some forms change the stats, typing, abilities, and/or moves of the Pokémon in question.

When a Pokémon can change its form at will, usually with a held item or exterior action, it is typically spelled “forme” instead of “form” to help differentiate. No matter what, some Pokémon have different forms that just look more interesting than the base form and some players go out of their way to make that form happen as much as possible.

10 Mega Banette Should Have Just Been An Evolution

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Mega Banette builds on what a regular Banette already had and makes it better, much like a proper evolution. It adds another bright pop of color, more zippers, and more shape while still looking like it belongs to the Shuppet/Banette line.

A regular Banette feels so plain and tiring in comparison, like a dusty old doll that had been tossed to the side. Mega Banette on the other hand looks like someone’s favorite creepy little voodoo doll that they take exceptional care of.

9 Mega Diancie Actually Looks Like A Legendary

Part of Diancie’s lore is that it’s an extra special, royal Carbink mutation and its basic form really looks like that. So this mythical Pokémon has to find a way to show off its extra abilities, skillset, and specialness with a Mega Evolution.

It’s a shame that it has to revert after battle because Diancie’s Mega is incredible. It really fits in better with its lore as a special, royal creature and still looks like a Pokémon while doing it.

8 Gigantamax Corviknight Is Imposing

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Corviknight is already a large, imposing bird made of steel, but it is dull with its monochromatic color scheme. Gigantamax Corviknight on the other hand adds in the horrifying red glow on its outstretched wings while adding to the knightly visage with extra patterns on brand new feathers.

Facing against one of these must feel like the time for judgment, as they are massive, imposing knights looking down at the field from the tip of its steely beak.

7 Gigantamax Coalossal Is What Coalossal Should Always Be

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

The progression of the Rolycoly line makes a lot of sense. It goes from a piece of coal, to a cart of coal, to a monster made out of coal. Gigantimax Coalossal takes it even one step further and makes itself a giant furnace complete with boiling eyes, pockets of exposed molten rock, and a mouth full of glowing hot coal.

After encountering a Gigantamax Coalossal, its base form looks so simple and not quite at the mark whereas Gigantamax knocks the design out of the park.

6 Sunshine Form Cherrim Is Much Cuter Than Overcast

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

During every type of weather outside of bright sun caused by Sunny Day, Drought, or a Fire-type Dynamax/Gigatimax move, a Cherrim is trapped in a sad form with a dark body covered by dark petals to the point it’s rare to see its face at all.

Once it gets into the bright sun, it changes form to an outrageously cute little flower fairy look complete with a big smile. It is by far one of the cutest Pokémon out there, but it’s usually hidden away under tightly wrapped petals.

5 Attack Forme Deoxys Is An Upgraded Normal Forme

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Attack Forme Deoxys doesn’t look much different from its regular form, only more angular and adding in a bit of black. However, this form increases both its Attack and Special Attack stats extremely high and looks more polished than its base form.

At least there’s no reason to keep a Deoxys locked into a subpar look as it will keep its chosen form and the increased stats that go with it until it is changed manually by the player.

4 Origin Forme Giratina Is The Ideal

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Outside of its Origin Forme, Giratina looks like a strange attempt to make a centipede into an imposing dragon-like creature and instead falls into a strange bulkiness. It doesn’t cater much to its intent as the embodiment of Antimatter to go along with the Space and Time aspects of the other two in its trio.

Origin Forme Giratina however has a sleek look and a ghostly presence worthy of its typing and Antimatter purpose. Lore wise, it can only take this form in its home dimension of the Distortion World due to the altered gravity in other dimensions. In-game, however, it only needs to be given a Griseous Orb to hold and it will keep its far superior forme ad infinitum.

3 Therian Forme Forces Of Nature Should Be The Base Standard

The original release of the Forces of Nature trio, also colloquially referred to as the Weather Trio, had all three of them looking like near-identical copies of each other. All three were bulky-looking male figures on a cloud, arms crossed, with a strange loop around them.

Black 2 and White 2 introduced new forms for the trio which gave them all far more unique looks that suit each one better while also making them feel more like Pokémon instead of something belonging to another franchise.

2 Crowned Sword Zacian Should Never Let Go Of Its Intrepid Sword

Pokémon 10 Alternate Forms That Look Cooler Than The Original

Zacian’s Hero of Many Battles form is a good forme, with a cut ear, lots of scars, and long hair tied into braids. Once it is given its Intrepid Sword, it transforms into a knightly, winged beast and gets a bulked attack stat to go with its signature Behemoth Blade move.

By all means, there is no reason to ever take the sword from it as it only really helps it and gives it a really cool new design worthy of the box art for Pokémon Sword. It also helps to make its blade and sword-like moves make more sense as to how it can be performing them since it is literally carrying around a sword in its mouth.

1 Primal Kyogre Takes A Good Design And Makes It Better

Kyogre already had a beautifully sleek design that made this massive whale actually an attractive-looking legendary. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire introduced the world to a primally-reverted version of both Kyogre and Groudon which added extra designs, colors, and a unique new ability called Primordial Rain instead of Drizzle.

Primordial Rain is such heavy rain that it will cause damage-dealing fire-type moves to fail, which gives it an edge over its Ruby counterpart, Groudon. Additionally, it has a more unique design than the typical firey-looking monster of Groudon, making itself look more powerful and dangerous than its original design instead of completely insane.
