In the world of Pokémon, there are currently almost 900 species of catchable monsters that come in all different shapes and sizes. Each Pokémon is unique in its own right, and one important factor that defines a Pokémon’s viability on the battlefield is its typing. The type of each Pokémon often goes hand in hand with their strengths, weaknesses, and attacks.

In particular, the family of Steel-type Pokémon is known to be sturdy, strong, and the most likely to survive the strongest physical attacks out there. Some Steel Pokémon, like Zacian and Zamazenta, are even legendary. To celebrate this tough bunch, here are ten works of stellar Steel-type fan art.

10 Dark Scizor

Most Bug-type Pokémon are seen as frail and squashable, but not Scizor. Thanks to its half-Steel typing, Scizor is one of the most powerful and defensive bugs around.

As shown in this fan art by @polarwiesel on Tumblr, Scizor very much resembles a creepy critter with its segmented body and paper-thin wings, and yet, it still manages to give off strong and dominant vibes. It stands there confidently with a death stare, surely striking fear into all who oppose it. The only bug that could possibly be scarier is its own Mega Evolution.

9 Happy Bird Family

Just by looking at Corviknight, one can tell that it is basically a raven with a body of metal. Ironically, there are two other bird Pokémon from previous generations that would make perfect parents for Coriviknight.

Tumblr artist @gerugeon drew a happy Corviknight between its fellow Steel-type bird, Skarmory, and its crow counterpart, Honchkrow. With Skarmory’s metal body and Honchkrow’s dark aesthetic, Corviknight could practically be their child. The only problem is that Corviknight is huge next to the other birds, and that doesn’t quite sit well with the tiny Honchkrow.

8 Tiny Metal Buddies

Steel Pokémon might have a reputation for being tough and brutal, but there are some outliers in the bunch who manage to make metal look cute. Two cute Steel-types are Magnemite and Meltan. While they might not seem so lovable at first glance, they make up for it in this wholesome interaction created by @genusm on Tumblr.

Not only are Magnemite and Meltan both the most adorable one-eyed pieces of metal, but they also both have the same ability, Magnet Pull. Rather than repel each other, it seems they would attract one another with their magnetic forces and become the best of friends!

7 Bisharp in Battle

Due to the heaviness of their metal bodies, Steel-type Pokémon are generally slow but defensive enough to withstand many attacks that would otherwise defeat frailer types. However, there are some Steel-types that find a balance between speed and defense. One such Pokémon is Bisharp.

Modeled after swords, blades, and everything “sharp,” Bisharp is fierce and always ready for battle. As shown in this fan art by @ravenousruss on Tumblr, Bisharp is light and agile enough to swiftly dodge a destructive beam attack from its opponent while planning its next move.

6 Galarian Meowth and Friends

Meowth is a very unique Pokémon that goes back to the very beginning in the Kanto Region. Although its original Kantonian form may seem like a simple money-obsessed cat, Meowth is actually the only Pokémon to have three regional forms and a Gigantamax form. Not all of the forms are Steel-type, but ironically, the fluffiest one is.

In this precious fan art by @friedunicornstudio, Kantonian Meowth and Alolan Meowth are using the Steel-type Galarian Meowth as a pillow as they all take a cat nap together. According to its Pokédex entry, there’s an iron body hiding under that soft tuft of fur!

5 Excadrill the Little Helper

While many people catch Pokémon and raise them as battling partners or lifelong companions, there are also people in the workforce who incorporate their Pokémon into their job. For example, Corviknights as “flying taxis” in the Galar Region and many physically strong Pokémon like Excadrill can assist in construction.

With its sharp drill-like horn and arms, Excadrill would naturally be useful for drilling and digging underground tunnels, along with other construction work. Tumblr artist @150plus drew a very cheerful Excadrill digging through a toolbox as its trainer gives it a hard hat to crown the hardworking helper.

4 Mega Skarmory & Steven

Skarmory is one of those Pokémon that has no evolution, despite its potential as a defensive tank on the battlefield. If it’s never getting the evolution we hoped for, it would be nice if it at least gained a Mega Evolution instead.

Thankfully, Tumblr artist @28-5 has given us a glimpse of what Skarmory could look like if it ever gets the Mega Evolution it deserves. With three heads and a more mechanical body, Mega Skarmory would be a new Steel-type threat to look out for. The addition of Steven Stone, a Steel-type enthusiast, was also a nice finishing touch.

3 Corviknight in Real Life

When Detective Pikachu came out, longtime Pokémon fans were finally able to see what these catchable monsters would look like in the real world. While some Pokémon were unexpectedly furry like Jigglypuff, others were right on point like Gyarados. However, one Pokémon that didn’t make it into the film was Corviknight.

Because Corviknight almost looks more like an actual raven than a Pokémon, it would translate quite well into the real world as demonstrated in this realistic fan art by @catandcrown on Tumblr. If it weren’t for its seven-foot body, it would definitely blend in with all the other ravens.

2 Primal Dialga

Pokémon 10 Pieces of Steel Pokémon Fan Art We Love

In the main series Pokémon games, the only two Pokémon with Primal forms are Groudon and Kyogre. But in the spinoff Mystery Dungeon games, another legendary Pokémon, Dialga, also has a terrifying Primal form.

In its normal form, Dialga already holds immense power as a legendary Pokémon who controls time. With its Primal form, it gains a surge of reddish-orange rage flowing through it while losing control over itself. Its pure terror and lack of reason makes it a killing machine and giant threat to the Mystery Dungeon crew as seen in this fan art by @cyborb on Tumblr.

1 Metagross on the Hunt

As the only Steel-type pseudo-legendary Pokémon so far, Metagross has superior stats all around but especially in its attack. With a massive attack stat of 135 and a nature that thrives on brutally hunting down its prey, Metagross can smash and destroy anything it wants–except for the tiny Shuckle in this fascinating fan art by @queenasitu on Instagram.

While Metagross is viciously shoving its victim down with all its might, Shuckle simply continues on, unfazed, as if a giant robot isn’t trying to eat it. Although Shuckle may appear to be a weak and easy target, it actually has one of the highest defense stats of all Pokémon at 230, which puts Metagross’ 135 attack stat to shame.
