It doesn’t take her long at all to win the hearts of fans regardless of whether they’re familiar with her game counterpart or not. She’s a strong character who goes through strong periods of development regardless of the source material, meaning there’s a lot about her that may be easy to miss.

10 Her Outfit Changes Depending On What Her Current Goal Is

Companions within the Pokémon universe tend to keep their outfits the same unless they’re dressing up to compete in a contest or showing up in a new season entirely. In the case of Lillie, her fashion decisions are unique when it comes to changing up her outfits and what they represent.

Lillie is unique in that she changes her outfit whenever her perspective or goal changes. For example, she changes outfits when she realizes she can’t reason with her mother, again when she joins the Ultra Guardians, and finally once more when she sets out to find her lost father.

When Lillie is first introduced, it’s easy to assume that she dislikes Pokémon altogether, or that she’s always been afraid of them. This tragically isn’t the case, though, as it turns out that Lillie has always harbored an incredibly deep love for them.

However, a traumatic event when she was younger led to Lillie being unable to touch Pokémon out of fear. However, she still leaves food out for them, and she’s thankfully able to work past this fear as her arc progresses.

Lillie’s name does indeed follow the plant-based naming structure that many characters within the Pokémon universe follow, such as the professors. However, there’s actually another clever reference hidden within Lillie’s name and her design that may not be as obvious.

The name Lillie is a relatively clear reference to the lily flower, and this reference is also cleverly laced throughout her design. The ruffles on her white dress represent the petals on a lily flower.

7 She’s A Fast Learner Who Picks Things Up Just By Observing

Lillie should technically be leagues behind her classmates when it comes to trainer experience, seeing as how she’s unable to touch or truly interact with Pokémon until later on. However, she compensates for this by learning all she can about them.

In addition to this, Lillie spends a lot of time watching her friends battle and learning from them. She’s able to pick up on strategies this way that she then applies to her own battles in the future.

6 For The Longest Time, She Believed That Her Father Passed Away When She Was Just A Child

One day while studying Ultra Wormholes, Lillie’s father is pulled into one and he’s presumed to be dead after the incident. Tapu Fini is unable to contact his spirit when Gladion asks the deity to do so, meaning that he still has to be alive somewhere.

After Magearna is reawakened, Lillie and Gladion realize something as it shoots out a purple beam in the direction of Mohn’s picture. Together with their mother, Lillie and Gladion realize that they might know the whereabouts of their father and set out to find him.

5 Her Relationship With Gladion Suffers After Childhood Because Of A Lack Of Communication

Back when Lillie and Gladion are still children, the two of them actually have a good relationship. The two are often seen playing together and are quite close until Lillie is attacked by an Ultra Beast and she develops a fear of touching Pokémon.

Gladion takes it upon himself to leave and become stronger to protect his sister, as well as to take out the Ultra Beasts. A rift forms between the two, and Lillie finds it hard to communicate with her now-colder and more serious brother, as he doesn’t communicate to her that he has left for her sake and little else.

4 Sophocles Is The First Person At The Trainer School To Talk To Her

While Lillie is able to step out of her shell and form more friendships as time goes on, it proves to be a real challenge for her at first. Thankfully for her, it doesn’t take long at all for her and Sophocles, a fellow student, to become friends.

She consoles him and offers him her full support when he’s caught up in his feelings regarding having to move. She’s shown to support him in other ways as well, such as when she shows up to a Vikavolt Race that he’s participating in. Finally, when Lillie sets off on her own journey to search for her father, Sophocles moves to Hoenn to chase his own dream.

3 She Wouldn’t Have Been Able To Get Over Her Fear Of Touching Pokémon Without Ash

It’s true that Lillie is able to make a lot of progress and growth all on her own. However, it’s also true that there are some steps that she’s only able to take with a little help from her friends, and this is especially true when it comes to Ash.

In fact, Lillie likely wouldn’t have been able to get over her fear of touching Pokémon at all if it wasn’t for Ash. He motivates her, keeps her safe, and inspires her to do her best, and his presence in her life helps push her forward and helps her overcome the obstacles in her way.

2 She Only Has Two Pokémon Partners, Snowy And Magearna

Most companions who follow or befriend Ash throughout his journey have a wide arsenal of Pokémon partners that they catch throughout their journey. However, Lillie is different, with her traumatic past involving touching Pokémon and the fact that she doesn’t travel until she sets out to find her father.

Throughout the entirety of her journey, Lillie only has two Pokémon partners to call her own, one of which is her Vulpix, Snowy. The other is Magearna, who’s left for her as a present from her father. She’s able to activate the ancient Pokémon so the two can become friends.

1 She’s The Third Main Character Shown To Nickname Her Pokémon

For many fans who play through the franchise’s video games, nicknaming one’s partners is often an essential part of the experience. However, this is far less common in the anime, to the point where only three of the main cast are ever shown doing so.

The first is Misty, who nicknames her Luvdisc Caserin, and the second is James who calls his Growlithe Growlie. Lillie is the most recent member of the main cast to be shown doing so when she decides on Snowy as a nickname for her Alolan Vulpix.
