After over 20 years of Pokémon, Ash finally won a Pokémon League during his adventures in Alola. Afterward, he found himself questioning his previous desire to become a Pokémon Master and whether or not this was still the goal he wanted to strive for. With the latest season, Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Ash has his sights set on beating Leon and taking the title of the world’s strongest Pokémon trainer.

Ash’s new team seems to reflect this goal better than any other team he has had in the past. Powerhouses like Dragonite, Gengar, and Riolu, who is expected to evolve at some point in the future, show that Ash is well on his way to catching a team of new Pokémon that will give him the best shot at victory. However, there are many Pokémon from past journeys that would also be wasted potential if left to relax in Professor Oak’s lab for the rest of their lives and should come back to fight alongside him once again.

10 Galarian Catch: Corviknight

Although Ash broke the trend of catching every region’s bird Pokémon in Alola, where he failed to catch any of the Toucannon line, he should go back to this trend just so he can catch a Corvinkight.

Arguably one of the best regional birds from any generation, this Flying-type could go a long way in adding some diversity to Ash’s team. Its Steel-typing would also help against the Fairy-types that are strong against his Dragonite, Riolu, and Galarian Far’fetched.

9 Bring Back: Snorlax

During the Oranga Islands, Battle Frontier, and some of the Sinnoh League, Snorlax was a powerhouse pick for Ash that would take the win more often than not. The fact Snorlax was able to claim victory over a trainer who specialized in Fighting-type Pokémon, despite its type disadvantage, should be enough of a reason to bring this hugable giant back into his team.

Snorlax’s potential to Gigantamax shouldn’t be overlooked either, as this could be a great asset to Ash’s team against Leon.

8 Galarian Catch: Cramorant

Cramorant may be one of the dopiest looking Pokemon in existence, but its unique ability, Gulp Missile, allows it to spit up other Pokémon after using Surf or Dive. This could make for some very interesting double battles. The standard use of this ability is to spit out Arrowkuda, but when its health drops low enough it will spit up Pikachu instead and add a chance to paralyze its opponent.

If Ash faces off against a trainer in a double battle using Cramorant and Pikachu, victory could come down to using this signature ability. With no other option, Pikachu would jump inside Cramorant’s mouth to be launched out as a two-for-one attack, sealing his victory in a bizarre use of tactics that Ash hasn’t used since his Sinnoh League days.

7 Bring Back: Sceptile

As the best Pokémon he trained in his Hoenn days, Sceptile would be an obvious pick to bring back into his team. Sceptile has a unique standing among all of his Pokémon, as it is one of the few who has ever defeated a Legendary Pokémon in battle.

Sceptile also helped Ash be the only trainer in the Sinnoh League to defeat Tobias’ Darkrai. Aside from this victory, Sceptile has proven itself time and time again to be one of Ash’s strongest Pokémon.

6 Galarian Catch: Obstagoon

Although Ash has had some Dark-type Pokémon in the past, with his most notable being Krookodile and Greninja, it’s a type that Ash rarely ever gets to utilize to its fullest potential. In fact, Greninja didn’t know a single Dark-type move, and Krookodile was used during one of Ash’s worst-performing regions.

Obstagoon would not only bring back a Dark-type into Ash’s team but would also be a far better option for a Galarian form than Far’fetched. As of now, the latter seems to only be used in training Riolu for its impending evolution.

5 Bring Back: Lycanroc

Like Sceptile, Lycanroc was a pivotal Pokémon during Ash’s exploration of its native region. Its greatest accomplishment, though also a silly one, was a victory over Gladion’s own Lycanroc by Countering a Counter.

Despite this odd means of victory, Lycanroc was one of Ash’s more powerful and reliable Pokémon in the Alola region. It should be given a second chance to prove just how strong it is against more powerful trainers.

4 Galarian Catch: Galarian Darmanitan

In all of Ash’s adventures, he has only ever caught two Ice-type Pokémon: Lapras, which was later released, and Glalie. Catching a Darmanitan would go a long way to not only diversify his team as it is now but also expand on the types he has already caught.

Galarian Darmanitan could also make for some interesting interactions outside of battle with Go’s own Darmanitan, who is one of his better catches and stronger Pokémon in his already vast arsenal.

3 Bring Back: Greninja

It seems highly unlikely that Greninja would return permanently, as it was released for the sole purpose of protecting the Kalos region from future threats. However, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that what is often argued as Ash’s strongest Pokémon could return for a single battle.

Greninja was Ash’s answer to Mega Evolution during the Kalos League, and, as shown with his rematch against Korinna, he is likely to have not seen the last of these powerful forms.

2 Galarian Catch: Grimmsnarl

Like Obstagoon, Ash obtaining a Grimmsnarl for his new team would go a long way to helping diversify his Pokémon’s types. Unlike Obstagoon, however, Grimmsnarl would also allow Ash to catch his first every Fairy-type Pokémon, something he has yet to do despite the type having been introduced two whole generations ago.

While he does have Mimey by his side to battle, who is also now a Fairy/Psychic-type, the loyal Mr. Mime’s role is less of a battler and more of a way for Deliah to make sure her son stays safe.

1 Bring Back: Charizard

Easily the Pokémon most fans want Ash to bring back for the World Coronation Series is Charizard. After being by Ash’s side for the majority of the series, as well as representing one of Ash’s biggest growths as a trainer when Charizard finally decided to start listening to him, it would make for an epic final clash with Leon to pit Charizard against Charizard.

The battle could decide once and for all which Charizard is the best Charizard.
