Pokémon BDSP Best Team To Start With In The Remakes

The best team to start with in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is easy to acquire, although it does require some patience to create. One of the strongest features of the remakes is that trainers are able to grab a large number of powerful Pokémon before they battle the second Pokémon BDSP Gym Leader, Gardenia. Of course, it is possible to raise any Pokémon to level 100 before venturing too far in the story, but the Pokémon on the best BDSP starting team do not require hours upon hours of level grinding. However, this team does require some external factors to be in place, and cannot be obtained through the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games by themselves.

Before the best starting team can be created in Pokémon BDSP, players will need to first progress to Eterna City and retrieve the Explorer Kit. The Explorer Kit is a key item that gives players access to the Grand Underground in Pokémon BDSP, an area beneath the surface of the Sinnoh region filled with different biomes and rare Pokémon. Additionally, players will need to have the ability to trade Pokémon with another trainer, as well as have played Pokémon Sword & Shield and Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee!

Both Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl offer unique rewards for fans of the series who have played either of the Pokémon Let’s Go games, as well as either Pokémon Sword or Shield. Early on in BDSP, players will arrive at Floaroma Town shortly after defeating the first Gym Leader. Located in the bottom left portion of the small town is an elderly couple who have two gifts for players who have save files of the previous Pokémon titles on their Switch. These gifts are Mew and Jirachi in Pokémon BDSP, Mew being the gift for a Let’s Go save file and Jirachi being the gift for a Sword or Shield save file. Both Pokémon are available, meaning players do not have to choose between the two. Mew and Jirachi are both powerful mythical Pokémon, and including them on the team already sets players up for early successes in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The Best Starting Team In Pokémon BDSP

After grabbing Jirachi, Mew, and the Explorer Kit from the house next to the Pokémon Center in Eterna City, the next step to building the best starting team is to head underground. The Pokémon players should be searching for next are Shinx, Onix, and Scyther, one of the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond exclusives. Finding a Shinx here rather than Route 202 will save players some time as far as training is concerned, because Shinx in the Grand Underground is above the level it needs to be at for its first evolution, Luxio.

Shinx can be found in the Spacious Cave areas of the Grand Underground, the areas marked by a sand-colored beige on the Grand Underground map. Onyx can be found in both the Volcanic Cave and the Rocky Cave. The Volcanic Cave is marked on the map by a lava-colored orange, while the Rocky Cave areas are marked by a marble pattern. Onix can also be found early on in the Oreburgh Mine, but, like Shinx, players can find it at a much higher level in Pokémon BDSP’s Grand Underground. Additionally, Pokémon found in the Grand Underground will know egg moves, moves that could only be learned by breeding Pokémon in BDSP.

Although Scyther is a Pokémon exclusive to Brilliant Diamond, the best starting team in both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl require it. Scyther can be found in the Grasslands Cave in the Grand Underground. This is one of two Pokémon that players will need to trade in order to have the best starting team, and the other Pokémon is Onix. While Onix isn’t a version exclusive, both it and Scyther must be traded with a Metal Coat in order to evolve.

Evolving both Scyther and Onix is important because Scizor, Scyther’s evolution, has the best Attack stat in Pokémon BDSP for both Bug and Steel-types, while Steelix, Onix’s evolution, has the best Defense stat of any Pokémon in the game. In the original Diamond and Pearl, players could only find Metal Coats in select locations around Sinnoh. However, now players are able to catch Magnemite with a chance of it holding a Metal Coat, and fortunately, Magnemite can be found in the Spacious Cave as well.

Pokémon BDSP: Which Starter Makes The Best Starting Team

Lastly, the final Pokémon to include on the best starting team is, naturally, whichever starter Pokémon players chose. While it’s hard to call which of the three Sinnoh starters are the best to use early on, there are plenty of pros to choosing Chimchar in Pokémon BDSP. After Chimchar evolves into Monferno at level 14, it gains a Fighting typing in addition to its Fire-type. This allows Monferno to easily defeat the first Gym Leader’s Rock-Type Pokémon, as well as the second Gym Leader’s Grass-Type Pokémon.

As Monferno evolves to Infernape throughout the game, it still remains one of the most powerful Fire and Fighting-Type Pokémon that players could use. Of course, players may find it challenging to use Infernape against Crasher Wake, the fourth Gym Leader in Pokémon BDSP, but countering his Water-Type Pokémon with Luxray (the evolved form of Luxio) will allow them to prevail with ease. So, before the second Gym Leader is even faced, players have the potential to have Monferno, Luxio, Mew, Jirachi, Steelix, and Scizor as their Pokémon in BDSP.

Although this team features many Steel-type Pokémon, their weaknesses and resistances far outweigh the risks of carrying so many Pokémon of the same typing. Ground-Type Pokémon are the biggest threat to this team; however, there are very few Ground-Type trainers throughout Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl until players near the final stages of the main story. Players will definitely want to include a Water-type Pokémon near the latter half of the game, and definitely before facing the Elite Four, but one of the benefits to having Mew on the team is that it can learn any move available through a TM.
