Pokémon BDSP Where to Find Dawn Stone (& What It’s For)

There are many methods players can use to evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, such as evolution that requires trainers to find and use a Dawn Stone. Thankfully, the quality of life improvements made to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl allows players to find one additional Dawn Stone that was not included in the original Diamond and Pearl. Also, similar to the original Diamond and Pearl, only two Pokémon require Dawn Stones to evolve in the remakes making it easier to complete the National Dex in Pokémon BDSP.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl introduced three new evolution stones: the Dawn, Dusk, and Shiny Stones. Each stone can be used on a Pokémon that previously had no further evolution. The Dawn Stone, in particular, provides two unique evolutions to Pokémon that already had final forms before the release of Diamond and Pearl. Additionally, because Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are mostly faithful to the original games, players can obtain the Dawn Stone before beating the Elite Four.

Froslass and Gallade are the only Pokémon that evolve using Dawn Stones in Pokémon BDSP, but only under certain conditions. A male Kirlia evolves into Gallade using a Dawn Stone, and a female Snorunt evolves into Froslass with a Dawn Stone. Both Pokémon are available in each version, and players can get a male Ralts, female Snorunt, and other rare Pokémon in the BDSP Grand Underground thanks to the Explorer Kit. Additionally, players can get Froslass and Gallade on their teams long before, thanks to Pachirisu’s Pick Up ability. As long as a Pachirisu isn’t already holding an item, the Pick Up ability allows certain items to be found randomly outside of battle. For example, the Dawn Stone is one of the items Pachirisu can find with Pick Up, and after the Dawn Stone is found, players can remove the held item and put it in their bag.

Every Dawn Stone Location In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The first Dawn Stone can be found in Mount Coronet just north of Oreburgh City. This Dawn Stone can only be accessed with the Hidden Move Surf, so players will need to have defeated the Hearthome City Gym Leader, Fantina, in Pokémon BDSP. First, head into the Mount Coronet entrance from Route 207, then travel south inside the mountain until players reach the body of water above the stairs. Then, Surf across the water to find a Dawn Stone on the other side.

Another Dawn Stone can be found in the Grand Underground near Snowpoint City. After going underground, head to the bottom-right Whiteout cave in this section of the map. The Dawn Stone is located on the left side of the cave. The final Dawn Stone can only be accessed once players reach the Battle Frontier in the end game content, after beating the Elite Four in Pokémon BDSP. Head to Route 225, and use Rock Climb to scale the first rocky area. The final Dawn Stone is located at the top of the pathway.
